    Another Series III Rebuild/Restore

    Hi All,

Some may remember me stating that I was going to do a Series 2A/3/Ford hybrid rebuild... I've since changed my mind and decided on rebuilding/restoring a 1975 Series III LWB wagon. I've almost got all the parts to do this rebuild, and some (As shown in the attached photos) I'm going to attempt to restore myself.

I got a 2A rolling chassis about 17/18 years ago, and the door skins are perfect, so I will be attempting to remove them, and transfer them to the series 3 doors.. Both door skins have holes in them, which have been patched with silicone.. And the left side door has a vent, which I'll remove. (Or I should say, that is not going back on)

The Rear cross member is rusted, and damaged, so I'll be replacing that with a new one which I've ordered. And as soon as I get my Mig Welder I will put it on...

I'm hoping to have it ready for the LR show in September, but I don't like may chances of that . As there is a lot of work to do.. And I don't want to rush it...

It originally had some Defender Seats (As in when I bought it), which are in bad shape, so I managed to get a pair of better ones, plus a console..

The motor, that is in it at the moment is a Holden 186. Which will be replaced with a Ford 4.1 6 with a Ford C4 Auto Gearbox, which will run on gas only.. (Easier to register, for environmental reasons) Although it comes with a petrol/gas switch setup, which I'll look into later..

I've attached a series of photos, showing the (slow ) progress, and are not in any particular order.

It's all still original. The only thing that has been done so far, was to remove the drivers side lower door skin. And readying it for clean up. (As shown in one of the photos). I've already removed all the floor panels, seat belt brackets, part of the dash, and a few other bits and pieces. Plus the rear door lock, and glass, ready for clean up and re-painting. As soon as I have done more, I'll pop up some more photos of the progress..

Mainly because I managed to get one that has a C4 ford Gearbox, and the transfer box, mod for it.. So basically, I got it all ready to bolt in. Plus it had a LPG conversion done to it as well..

And a mate of mine years ago put a Ford motor in his 2a tabletop, and it when really well..

Forgot to mention, that I have a Ford Block (196 Cube?? Have to check it again), which the same mate, re-did the bottom end for more torque, than speed. Painted it all up etc.. But just the block, no head and stuff. He saw an add which the guy had done all that already and he ended up buying that. Also have the alloy adaptor plate (to bolt it to the Rover gearbox) and other stuff for it.. Might whack it on Ebay and get something for it..

I'm told (And I managed to confirm it), it's out of an XF falcon. Around 85-86 model. Injected, unleaded model.

Those conversions go really well Wolfman.
My brother has one and I have also got one in an unfinished project.
It looks the same conversion as ours.Seatons Engineers WA.
The conversion involves removing the ford output housing with theirs and shortening the output shaft and re-machining to suit the Landrover transfercase which appears to be completed.
A tip, breather at the rear of their housing can spew auto-trans fluid wich can get on the hot exhaust. Its best to route a reasonably sized hose(1/2inch) back to the filler tube(may not have one if a cortina C4 was used) or a catch tank.
Also a Falcon linkage style shifter wont work because there is too much movement between the transmission, chassis and body.Cortina C4s had a cable shift but a ordinary styled shifter,BM and others make good cable-shifts,see ebay or a speed shop.
    ENJOY
