I suspect it is all covered in the OKA forum: (where you sometimes get Land Rover stuff too!)

    OKA for sale

There's an OKA on E-bay at the moment, you don't often see them come up for sale. Whoever buys it can do a write-up for the forum!

OKA 298 was on the market around April last year.

In better days it looked like this

    (photos from OKA forum)

but it has obviously deteriorated somewhat since then.

At this time an OKA forum member looked at the vehicle and summed it up like this................................

"Had a look last night as it was getting dark, so under torch light.

Overhang: 4000mm from back of cabin/twincab joint to end of spare wheel chassis extension. Spare wheel is clamped to this and projects further.
After visit vendor called and advised that there was a NSW roads sheet approving a modification ... listing says RTA approval of pop top (untested).
Rust: plenty .. looks like the twincab has had drivers side door relocated to passenger side, new cladding is galvanised, and lots of paint has come off this showing the galvanised sheet.
Original steel skin is rusty around the edges, and being pushed off frames by the rust. Rust inside doors is evident, and near lower hinge inside on drivers door almost see through.
    Dash etc all pretty good
Engine started quickly and idled evenly, tacho worked.
Gearbox worked through the gears smoothly, without crunching. Stationary test.
Oil leak evidence on engine/gearbox/transfer/diffs/hubs ... vehicle has been sitting for some time.
Little if any coolant/water in catch tank.
Brake pedal firm, but evidence of fluid (maybe hub oil) on calipers.
Tyres 255/?/16 Michelin on 16" split rims, good spare.
Interestingly, capacity for twin front shocks, both fitted on rear, but only 1 fitted on each side on front, and one was the forward shock and other the rear one!
Shackle pins etc all seemed standard.
    Interior needs gutting.
For a "VEHICLE WAS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL MECHANICALLY MAINTAINED AS DECEASED OWNER WAS FANATICAL" it looked very run down, and knocked about that did not really match the description.
Some of the interior fittings/camping furniture showed original carefully constructed, other bits were quite roughly built.

Hope this helps, in case any one is interested.

I think I'll keep looking for something that is less of a project! "

    another member described it thus...............

"Well every OKA is a good buy, some are a great buys.

If this was brought for the 35k, it may be a good buy, if it was brought for 20k it would be a great buy, if it was 55k then it wouldnt be.......

However when anyone asks me about buying a OKA, I always tell them to allow at least 5k if not 10 for repairs, upgrades etc etc. ....................... "

OKA owners refer to their vehicles by the (unique) last three digits of the VIN number. This defines the specific vehicle and whether it's an XT model, LT model or the later (only a dozen or so made) NT.

The OKA forum people are a pretty friendly and helpful lot and are quite wiling to advise prospective owners on OKA's in general or specific vehicles. It's unusual for a vehicle to come up for sale with an unknown history.

The OKA forum can be found here

Aahh! So that explains why this is just described as "XT 003"?:

These two OKA's are a very good example of both ends of the OKA spectrum ie. the older vehicle (XT) is in better condition than the newer vehicle (LT).

Asking price for the LT with 128 K Km's is $30K so probably 10% less realistically at $27 K would be a 'good buy' for someone who wanted a bit of a project. Seems to be mechanically OK but needs a complete refurbishment inside and out. This newer LT model has a Rockwell transfer case which is said not to be as good as the NP205 found in the earlier XT. Not from a failure point of view but its 'clover leaf' design absorbs more power (less efficient) and noisier (straight cut gears) than the NP205. It has 255/100 R16's Michelin XZL's(tubed) on split rims. Great tyres but unusual and very expensive to replace and still not tubeless. Cheaper and better to replace the rim/tyre combo with steel/alloy rim with Hankook 315/75 R16 muddys when the time comes. The LT has a more modern cooling system than the XT with a larger cross flow radiator which is a LOT easier to remove for maintenance though both systems work well when properly maintained. The LT has a wider dash with lots of holes for those who like lots of gauges .

The older XT with an asking price of $80K, so again say a bit less at around $75K is also a good buy for someone who wants a 'ready to go' all terrain off road camper. This vehicle is reputed to be in excellent refurbished mechanical condition with HD (upgraded) drive line components, lockers and 305/70 R 19.5 AT's on 8" rims. These are 37" equivalents. This is a very good looking and capable vehicle with a slightly 'tired' looking interior which IMO could do with a bit of a 'spruce up'. The 231 K Km's is still low K's for an OKA.

Unlike most vehicles K's and age are not particularly relevant to an OKA's value. Condition, maintenance and upgrades (particularly drive train and fit out) are the determining factors.

There are a number of OKA's out there with 6BT Cummins (160 - 300 HP) engine replacements, some with auto's and whilst this is a major improvement on the original Perkins Phaser 110 HP make sure it is able to be registered in your state if one of these takes your fancy. Note. Whilst most OKA's have the 4cyl. Perkins there is no running gear difference to those that came out with Chev petrol and diesel V8's and Autos. There were actually a few 2WD variants, one used to do the Alice Springs - Ayres Rock tourist run up until a couple of years ago.
