Ok, and it does go to earth off the input power side, at least thats what it looks like, the wire is busted before i reconnect it i needed to know what it does.

ps just had a look at the first loom photo the one with my boot in it, you can see the regulator is the blue thing just above it, the dark green wire in on the left is power in off the fuse panel and there is a connection next to it which i think the 'capacitor' goes into, the out goes to the two gauges.
