Originals were 14mm The current King springs 16mm and wanting to put Defender ones in are 16mm(not new) also and same height do you think the defender ones will make a difference?????

H & C,

The number of coils, their thickness and the spring free length are all important. If the defender ones are the same free length, the same diameter and have the same number of coils, then apart from the fact that they MAY be of a better tensile strength, I wouldn't bother replacing them.

(Mostly due to the fact that replacing front springs is more of a pain than rears..)
