I use a rope from masterpull and am happy with it. It has been heat treated and is a little stiffer than most ropes, but it doesn't go fluffy either.

Master-Pull Superline XD Winch Rope

On the first meter of rope I have a outer sheath covering it. When I see this starting to come out the fairlead I know it is time to stop unspooling.

And the remote control is very handy when your half way up a hill looking for an anchor point and need just that little bit extra. It also means less stuffing around when your getting in the cab with a wire running from the control box and up over the bonnet, but this can also be resolved by an incab switch for your winch. (I dont have an in cab switch on mine atm cause I dont want the 4 & 6 year old playing with it when they play 4wding when the truck is parked in the driveway )
