Haha, thats who I have looking at mine Wednesday! What luck
Folks
Just thought I'd share with you the progress I've made on getting my tdi aircon fixed.
Symptoms: Aircon got cold, but it appears to freeze up after 10 minutes and then you had to wait another 10 minutes for it to thaw before it would start working again. You could not turn the thermostat beyond 11 oclock.
In the last year it had a new compressor and regassed.
I had a mobile aircon guy come and have a look at it and basically the problem was that the evaporator matrix was clogged with hair and red dust. There was a matted layer of hair/mud across the front of the evaporator blocking airflow.
A picture of the evaporated is attached, after it had been cleaned
It took about 3.5 hours to evacuate, remove, clean, refit, regas the unit.
Key lessons learned:
* Ensure the grommet around the aircon going through the firewall is in place and sealed because it lets in dust that will clog the evaporator
* The unit is not designed to be removed from the vehicle. There's a large wiring harness that runs through the unit that makes removal difficult. This one was done insitu in the cab
I'll make a mention of Gavin from K2 Mobile Airconditioning from Birkdale (Brisbane) who did the work. He was very patient with what appears to be a clumsy aircon design/system

SupporterI have a 130 single cab tray ute and hate how much room the A/C unit takes up. Particularly on the passenger side and not being able to get any leg room advantage from mudrails on the seats I was wondering if it is possible to deconstruct the A/C unit and reconfigure it and mount it behind the cab under my tray and have the air blow into the cab via vents cut in behind the seats. Does anyone think this is feasible or would it be easier to ditch it and mount a roof unit?
its doable mounting it,routing and extending the lines is the hardest bit.
