    Mantec fallac type snorkel

Just looking for comments on the 110 mantec plastic snorkel. I was intending on welding one up myself similar to the Perentie RSV style using 3" pipe. However, I can get a mantec to my door from the UK for about $320.

Anyone's experience with having one of these would be appreciated. Also would like to know the diameter of the pipe fitting onto to snorkel. I am looking at fitting it to a 4BD1T which probably sucks air up to maybe 400 cfm.

    Thanks

It fits only on the outside so utilises the internal piping to the air cleaner housing. The unit clips in at the bottom to the panel and then is held securely by 2 bolts at the top. This is behind the little silver bit visible on dullbirds picture.

As for the snorkel itself the flower pot on top bolts flat to the top of the pipe. The main pipe is diamond shaped in cross section up the A-pillar. Air flow is very good for the Puma don't know about on an 4BD1T. The base of the flower pot top is vented with small vanes and the main air intake hole is to the rear.

As all know, Mantec manufactures all the kit for G4 and a they did a lot of the stuff in the Camel days. Very good quality and always does what it says on the tin. Not sure who makes the LR Genuine Parts one, but it looks strikingly similar to the Mantec (few small differences and 3 times the price!).

I run a Puma 90 and opted for the Mantec "Plastic Jobbie" as they call it in the UK. Believe it or not, the car actually runs quieter with it fitted. I found that the Puma "breathed" pretty loudly, but since I fitted the snorkel you can't hear any airflow noise. A lot of research has gone into the "flower pot" top and they claim the shape allows for less dust being sucked (aerodynamics or something)

I'm very happy with it, but whether it's any different/better that the Safari's I've had on my 300Tdi's before would be individual opinion. The price is however a big plus!

    Cheers!

I have a plastic jobbie mantec raised air intake on my Puma. I like it but I am concerned with the internal piping from the airbox to the snorkel as it is only a slip on fit, not water tight. The internal piping is also qiuite constricted in places. I have read of people on here of people fitting a Safari snorkel and 65mm?(cant remember the exact size) hose from snorkel to airbox to ensure a tatertight fit. there is also a drain hole in the airbox that some people also plug. This mod is also said to increase performance.

If I was considering a snorkel I would probably go for a safari with the above mod. I dont think it would be easy to mod a plastic jobby to attach a new 65mm? internal pipe.

    Thanks for the above advice.

I would need to cut a hole through the side of the guard and plump the aircleaner pipe to the snorkel.

Is the snorkel held on at the bottom by bolts through the side of the guard? Also, just confirming is the snorkel designed to fit a 65mm pipe from the aircleaner?
    Thanks

As I mentioned it clips on at the bottom and uses existing internal plumbing. In you case you would need to fabricate this or get something from a 300tdi wreck. There is a pictorial of the installation on Defender2.net.

I'm still looking at this snorkel option.

For anyone interested I found a pretty good site showing installation.
