The spline counts and column diameters are all over the place.
Early 110 and TD5 on wagons used a 36 spline column, (same as RRC ?) 300Tdi used a 48 spline column and 130 TD5's continued using the 48 spline column. (I think it's the same as a Jaguar ?)
I have a link on the main PC I'll dig up later that explains it all.
Hi uninformed
Been there done that, not sure if it was the right move,
New steering wheel (plastic deep grained 17") which fits Defender models from 1995 onwards from chassis number MA962815 onwards.
36 spline check yours as there is a 48 spline shaft as-well not sure when LR changed over
Approx cost $ 250
Steering Wheel 1995- ANR3231 NTC8847 QTB502130
Now I'm thinking of fitting an aftermarket one with a boss kit
[bit smaller in diameter so you have a bit more elbow room at door]
14" 15"
Cost is give or take around the same ............................
I definitely have steering wheel "Type B". So as long as it looks the same as that It should have the 48 spline, which mine should be? Also looks like the Non-station wagon Td5 had the same spline...not sure what their steering wheel looked like.
Im not really interested in an aftermarket type, especially of smaller dia. I find the larger dia more comfortable to use, especially at low speeds off road.
For some reason when my parts guy in the UK imputed my VIN it was telling him I needed the 900 quid leather steering wheel
Do all Td5s have the bump, or "air bag bump" as people reffer to it? Or is that just the station wagons and the non-station wagons have the same as mine?
The ANR 3231 new number QTB502130 is the type "B" as per attached picture which is the 48 spline wheel for the 300 TDI Defender
same one as I purchased
I had a look at the web sites you listed and Im sure you are right re the use of a generic photo
Not sure on the leather steering wheel for 900 quid he might have been looking at a Discovery hse or just put the wrong vin number in the computer
Im sure somebody here will correct this if Im wrong,
The wife tells me that I am most of the time any-way so whats new

has brand new ones for $250 + approx $ 20
almost certian that all Td5s have the bump, or "air bag bump wheels
if you can wait a while its well worth getting one sent over from the UK for price wise that is
ok just removed mine. Definitely 48 spline, 19mm OD at splines. Im actually happy with shape, look and size of the standard ones. Not so much that it crumbles a little in my hands every day. Being a vehicle that is 100% parked outside all the time does not help the cause either
If I had the choice I would probably go the earlier 4 spoke wheel from a 110. For some reason I just like them I guess no one makes an adapter from 48spline column to 36spline steering wheel?
Ill be ordering mine from the UK as I have to get some brake caliper gallery seals anyway.
re the 900 quid, I just checked the file the parts guy sent me. Its from EPC, which im guessing is the online parts checker with LR in the UK. That is to say genuine LR. The VIN was correct. It even sates for 2.5l 4cyl Tdi L/R, Tdi hardtop 50th, Hardtop. Black, leather covered.
Can anyone tell me where you can get the airbag bump wheel? I've actually been looking a while for one, but can't seem to find, only the other one which Zealand mentioned. I've an 03 and its already a mess
