    98 110 steering wheel

    Hey all,

Im looking for the part# for my steering wheel (badly need a new one) My vehicle is 1998 300Tdi 110 C/Chassis. VIN ends in WA147430.

Can I use any of the earlier or later 110 wheels?

    No.

The spline counts and column diameters are all over the place.

Early 110 and TD5 on wagons used a 36 spline column, (same as RRC ?) 300Tdi used a 48 spline column and 130 TD5's continued using the 48 spline column. (I think it's the same as a Jaguar ?)

I have a link on the main PC I'll dig up later that explains it all.

This might help too, but some is now out of date in terms of availability. (refer last post ) http://www.aulro.com/afvb/good-oil/3...n-removal.html

    Hi uninformed
Been there done that, not sure if it was the right move,
New steering wheel (plastic deep grained 17") which fits Defender models from 1995 onwards from chassis number MA962815 onwards.
36 spline check yours as there is a 48 spline shaft as-well not sure when LR changed over
    Approx cost $ 250

    Steering Wheel 1995- ANR3231 NTC8847 QTB502130

Now I'm thinking of fitting an aftermarket one with a boss kit
[bit smaller in diameter so you have a bit more elbow room at door]
    14" 15"
Cost is give or take around the same ............................

If I am reading this link correctly:

    Web Rover

I definitely have steering wheel "Type B". So as long as it looks the same as that It should have the 48 spline, which mine should be? Also looks like the Non-station wagon Td5 had the same spline...not sure what their steering wheel looked like.

Im not really interested in an aftermarket type, especially of smaller dia. I find the larger dia more comfortable to use, especially at low speeds off road.

For some reason when my parts guy in the UK imputed my VIN it was telling him I needed the 900 quid leather steering wheel

    According to page 49 here:

    http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrov...g_p398-471.pdf

Mine would be part# ANR3231, which I have been told is now part# QTB502130.

    which can be seen here:

Wheel Assy - Steering - Land Rover Part QTB502130

one would hope they dont just use a generic photo and that pic at top is actually the type of wheel.

checking another parts seller shows superseeded part numbers:

    ANR3231 WHEEL STEERING | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

    and Craddocks also:

    ANR3231 - USE QTB502130 - Defender 90/110 Parts

Do all Td5s have the bump, or "air bag bump" as people reffer to it? Or is that just the station wagons and the non-station wagons have the same as mine?

The ANR 3231 new number QTB502130 is the type "B" as per attached picture which is the 48 spline wheel for the 300 TDI Defender
    same one as I purchased
I had a look at the web sites you listed and Im sure you are right re the use of a generic photo
Not sure on the leather steering wheel for 900 quid he might have been looking at a Discovery hse or just put the wrong vin number in the computer
Im sure somebody here will correct this if Im wrong,
The wife tells me that I am most of the time any-way so whats new
Gary from CLR 4WD Parts Ph 02 47542642
    Email cir4wdparts@optusnet.com.au
has brand new ones for $250 + approx $ 20
almost certian that all Td5s have the bump, or "air bag bump wheels
if you can wait a while its well worth getting one sent over from the UK for price wise that is

Have been going through this in the last couple of weeks, and my wheel isn't quite as bad as yours but is deteriorating quickly.

If going aftermarket there are two large diameter, (380mm) zero dish wheels that would be suitable, both made by OMP. OMP Velocita Steering Wheel | Rallynuts
OMP Racing - Racing equipments, Karting equipments, Vintages equipments, Tuning car, OMP Officina sportswear
OMP Racing - Racing equipments, Karting equipments, Vintages equipments, Tuning car, OMP Officina sportswear

The first one is leather, the second polyurethane.

It's unfortunate that Carl/Isotta isn't bringing in Luisi hubs/adapters anymore as I know his work, the cancelling pins are in the right spots.

Bearmach also do a hub, Defender Steering Wheel Boss 48 Spline BA3201 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. and any OMP/Momo/etc hub will work, but, most of the time the steering wheel companies/suppliers can't give you the correct hub as they have NFI.......I'm excluding Bearmach from this generalisation.
There are also a couple of UK based Landy suppliers that have various hubs available, eg Devon 4x4 Boss - Fine Spline 48 (still had all the tabs up from my searches)

Moto-Lita also do a specific Land Rover hub and a nice 15"/380mm wheel.
Their wheels are very nice but pricey.

Mountney do a cheap polyurethane wheel and hub too.

ok just removed mine. Definitely 48 spline, 19mm OD at splines. Im actually happy with shape, look and size of the standard ones. Not so much that it crumbles a little in my hands every day. Being a vehicle that is 100% parked outside all the time does not help the cause either

If I had the choice I would probably go the earlier 4 spoke wheel from a 110. For some reason I just like them I guess no one makes an adapter from 48spline column to 36spline steering wheel?

Ill be ordering mine from the UK as I have to get some brake caliper gallery seals anyway.

re the 900 quid, I just checked the file the parts guy sent me. Its from EPC, which im guessing is the online parts checker with LR in the UK. That is to say genuine LR. The VIN was correct. It even sates for 2.5l 4cyl Tdi L/R, Tdi hardtop 50th, Hardtop. Black, leather covered.
