    It's Dyno day!

    Sorry...just a little excited today.

in the never ending pursuit for more power and after recent upgrades including Allisport intercooler, straight through exhaust (no mufflers), EGT and boost guage, silicone hoses, the truck is going on the dyno today for a pump tune.

I am still waiting on a custom intercooler pipe - the pipe that connects the intercooler to the turbo - the factory pipe has a crush section in it to get around the mudguard and top of the suspension tower - what was Landrover thinking!

Not that this will make much of a difference, if any, but it just annoys me.

Even driving around with the new intercooler, I can notice a difference.

More updates later after I collect the truck.

    Cheers

    Results are in!

And sorry I don't have any before mods data. See attached dyno reading.

All I can say is ......wow!!! What a difference. Totally different car to drive.

Heaps more power down low, and so much smoother. EGT's are about 50 degrees cooler at 110kph. Plus the pedal is far more responsive now.

Truck was weighing in at nearly 3 tons, and on 285/75 Mickey Thompson MTZ's during test.

Dyno guy stated that I had a 20HP gain at the wheels. I know 104HP at the wheels does not sound much, but I can really feel the difference.

Will do further testing this weekend towing a loaded dirt bike trailer and driving up some big hills.

    PS....very happy with the service!

    Thanks for the update.
I wonder why they did it in 3rd gear??
I am interested to know if you use more fuel now.
What are your egt's on the highway now and is the sender before or after the turbo.
    Thanks again.

    Cheers,
    Michael.

apparently 3rd gear is the optimal.

EGT's were sitting between 400 and 450 at 100 - 110kph in 5th gear last night during my test run. And fuel usage will be interesting. Before I was averaging 12.5 litres per 100kms.

EGT probe is mounted into the usual spot on a 300TDi - the blanking plate before the turbo.

I didn't notice any change in smoke out the back. Very minimal, if at all

Many people bitch about the Tdi because it lacks power, they only lack power because they were factory tuned to meet pollution standards not outright performance. Pat

That's a fair amount of torque, roughly 770+ Nm'.

What turbo have you got on it?

    Regards,

Dyno tests should be done in 4th as it is a 1:1 ratio. Your power would be slightly higher if done in 4th. There are reasons the dyno operator will do the runs in 3rd, usually due to the tyres not being rated to do the high speeds. The has been cases where tyres have delaminated during a dyno run.
Oh, and torque reading on a chassis dyno should be ignored as the figure is multiplied by gearing, the size etc. It'd only useful to gauge before and after readings.
