Double Din Sat Nav for Defender

I have asked a few questions on other areas of this site where this subject has been discussed .....but no replys ......so thought I'd try a new tread

Question .....has anyone fitted a 2 DIN facia that are available from UK to a Defender .....to take a 2 DIN SatNav pioneer or Alpine 2 DIN Sat Nav unit ...

I also want too incorporate a reversing camera

If so I have some questions before I order one ....

    Many thanks

A member on here has installed one,

    Alpine double din GPS/ stereo/ Bluetooth/reversing camera

Not much info in the post though.

There are a few others that have posted about double DIN systems as well, just use the search function thingy.

    Regards,
    Mike.

P.s. Which defender model do you have?
I have a double DIN radio in a MUD dash in a 300tdi, however the post referenced above is for a TDCi.

    Hi Landoman
I don't think you are restricted to the Pioneer /Alpine range, any double din unit should fit. I have the fascia sitting in the shed and am in the same position at looking for units. There is a Sydney based company that produces double din nav/ entertainment/ reverse camera unit called Opal. 3 Year warranty as opposed to 1 year for the others(a google will bring them up). The preferred nav software is Ozi Explorer which is again local based and they offer courses to get the most out of the system. They can run Hema or other maps. The pricing is around the $1000 mark plus the Ozi software plus installation. Other units I have looked at are slightly cheaper though have had reliability-warranty claims. I already have a licence for Ozi so I can deduct this from a potential price. This was from a communication specialist in Narellan. I will keep watching this thread and post a pic when installed if I go this way.

    Thanks mark m

That one you got may be German made but it's listed in a few places as being from Dynamic sounds in UK .......and contacted them 289 pounds ....plus 120 pounds to ship .......before I spent this much I asked them some questions ....which they never answered

So if you have installed one .......then perhaps you might help with the questions they ignored

    1) what holds the main 2 din facia in when you replace the factory single din .....there are two screws you remove to get the factory one out ....do they hold in the replacement 2 din

    2) what holds the new 2 din SatNav unit in the new facia ........it appears to have two metal clips or holders .....do these securely hold the sat Nav in place ( off road don't want in coming loose

    3) when you cut the hole in the dash to take the second switch holding unit ( ie smaller switch facia ) ......what holds it in place in the hole you have cut ....screws ....?? Glue ??

4 ) looks like a bit of surgery is required to cut off the top part in the factory facia that holds the clock ........how hard is this to do .....does it look ok when you fit the new replacement 2 Din facia below it

    5) looks like you have to remove the coloured tempeture control indicators fron the factory facia and fit then to the new 2 din one ......how hard is this to do with out damage

    6) did you wire up a reversing camera. .....if so how hard was this .....(needs to be connected so that the camera is activated when car but in reverse .....

Appreciate any comments on the above

Is there anyone who has fitted a 2 din satnav holder from dynamic sounds or that they bought off the net ......from UK .......their appears to be only 1 type that fits a defender .....it has tow parts large facia for the 2 din .....and smaller one for the left over switches .........before I commit to the 400 pounds .....anyone who has fitted this care to comment on my question

    Thanks in advance

I looked at this however with the auxiliary switches I was a little short on room and I could not justify the price so i opted for a pioneer single din fold out screen head unit.

I bought a whole system including amplifier for the same price as the double din fascia with a cheap head unit.
