Thread: New Pumas with improved rustproofing

Monitor your oil loss but my understanding is it has further to go. Mine started to weep and I managed to drive several hundred km's with no change. Your's is a lot worse.

The Vac pump is located at the top front passenger's side of the engine (where all the oil originates) and is bolted down on to a flat bracket. From memory it's the top pulley on that side too. From what I've read it actually only loses about 50mL of oil, but makes a BIG mess.

As for the pump itself the service bulletin refers to only changing if it goes or shows signs of going. From what I've read and speaker to others it seems to be more of a case of leave it and se if it fails as not all units do. I must admit I thought by 09 they were all on the latest iteration of the pump but obviously that's not the case.

Had mine done this week (dealer in Osborne Park very good to me) was ready in an hour. Mine has done 15000km and no leak at all, then oil everywhare. I am told they cannot replace the pump if it doesn't leak. My vehicle continues to get newer and I'm loving it

Mark those photo's could have been of mine a month ago. After describing it to Land Rover they said okay to drive it in to them (20km).
It was the vacuum pump and they were very prompt in replacing it under warranty.

They told me that the supplier gave Land Rover a faulty batch, and as Land rover had no record of which vehicles that batch went into they couldn't do a recall. And so are just waiting for the few hand grenades that are out there to go off, and then fix them.

Very happy with the repair and the way they handled it, but wish they had have cleaned up a bit better. If anything else develops a slow leak I would never know as it is all covered in oil still. As you say though. Good rustproofing.

Yep, my brake vacuum pump let go too around 12000k's. Very well handled by the dealer and fixed it under warranty without question and told me it was a common problem.

Don't fret BW, it will be fine after having the latest pump fitted, eh Derek

So if you buy a 2010 Puma the vacume pump issue is now resolved ?
