Which Awning?

Hi All
I've been looking at roof mounted camp awenings, and wondering which ones most people use. The Polaris Awening seams to be good value for money, are they're any other good ones out there that have given good service?

Thanks

My Hannibal awning has been very good. I think dullbird's is a Polarise and they seem very happy with it.

I chose the Hannibal as it doesn't have any poles. The downside to this is you can't angel it if the sun is an issue, the upside is it is very quick to put up and take down.

I also have the Hannibal, love how easy it is to put up and pack away. With no poles it is easy to move the vehicle to maximise shade as the sun moves. Haven't had it in bad weather yet but it looks and feels incredibly sturdy. However being flat it would pool badly in rain. Apparently they are developing something to give the roof a bit of a pitch for runoff.
You can get walls for it, thinking of getting just one to use as a wind break.

Are the Arb and Hannibal ones canvas or the poly type of stuff. Have looked at the Ironman stuff, they seam to be self retractable, I wonder how long that would last in outdoor conditions, the beach especially?

I was thinking that a DIY option would be the best value for money here. The commercial ones are, I think, pretty expensive ? (Hannibal etc).

A DIY one is going to be more slightly fiddly / time consuming to erect (and probably would have poles) but not overly so - and if the cost savings are significant... well, that's more beer to drink in the shade !

The Hannibal is canvas. Last time I looked at an ARB it was plasticised stuff and the ARB have poles.

As for bad weather it's fine, though you do have to keep an eye on rain pooling in a sudden down pour.

I don't like the idea of a self retracting blind style as I think it's a lot to go wrong.

Foxwing

Hmmmm...........

Been seeing those "foxwings" at the shows and really want one for my disco. Covers the side and back of the car, only needs poles when it's windy .... can even catch water if required.

but the $$$$$$$$$$$$

made by the guys who make the oztent and out of the same material .... will even zip onto the front of an oztent (if you wish - or 4-5, one on each span????)

a link
