in all honesty, and im trying to not be biased here, this rangie above ^ would have to be the best bang for buck starting point for a toy.

Chrysler V8's are much much stronger and reliable than the LR V8's, and the 727 torqueflites are also much stronger and more reliable than the ZF 4 speed autos in the later rangies. both are easy and cheap to source bits for if something breaks in the middle of nowhere.

now obviously it will drink like a fish, but that wasnt a requirement in the original post. and is easily fixed with upgraded intake and exhaust, or a gas system.

if im correct, it should have the vac locked LT230 transfer, which is the strongest LR transfer and not a POS viscous setup.

also it will have alot less electrics to play up than the later rangies. i havent been in one in years, but it should still be a nice thing to drive (especially when your used to defenders). and interiors are **** easy and inexpensive to replace compared to mechanicals/bodywork anyways.

so with the car above, its a case of replace the diffs with stronger units as they break, and add defender brakes, and it should be all win.

Huh? AFAIK all the extra room in an LSE is in the back seat.

For the person with the 2 door with a collapsed seat, you can get a new Pirelli base for (used to be) about $80 and it is easy DIY.

That is correct PhilipA - along with bigger back doors to suit.

That's correct, it means when his freakishly tall body has the seat all the way back, his children don't get crushed

Well I got 2 about well 12 years ago from Mona Vale Spare Parts but start with say Gary at CLR or Rovacraft. If not send an email to a UK supplier like Paddocks.
The base is a flat piece of thick rubber held on by hooks and if you feel or look under the seat you will see it.
Maybe look for a seat in wreckers or on this forum and swap over the rubber, as it is quite easy with no dismantling involved. Early 4 door seats are the same seat.
    Regards Philip A
