Biggest tyres on a stock 83' RR

    Hi All,

Since selling my D1 9 months ago, I've been driving a Td5 D2, and ever since loosing the old Range Rover chassis I've been longing to get back into a proper LR chassis, initially I wanted a 110" but after looking at the Perenties they are a little agricultural to drive as often as I want i decided to pass on that idea for now.

Anyway an 83 Rangie has been offered to me and I'm thinking it would make a more or less perfect platform to build an off road toy from (V8, A/C, power steering, historic rego when i want it etc.).

As I'm a full time uni student (Mechanical engineering) and have a few other projects (dune buggy + trailer) it's going to be a slow build.

Basically I'd like to go from mild to wild as funds permit, so to start off I want to fit the largest feasible tyres (fit and work with stock driveline).

So what does everyone think is the best size to go for? Will go on 3 spoke alloys. I was thinking 265/75-16, however research suggests they don't fit without trimming etc.

I am open to small mods, but then bigger tyres put strain on driveline too...

    Cheers
    Will

i'd go tall and narrow, something like 235/85/16 will be easier to fit. run that for a while, have a ball, and if you can fit bigger tyres down the track once you do other mods then go for it then.

Cheers mate, I'm leaning that way too.

After I posted I remembered i should have mentioned that link, makes me lean towards that 235/85-16 size, then just have to pick a brand!
