How to get 400Nm from RRC

What is your opinion on the most effective way to achieve 400nm of torque from a RRC? (Effective = a balance of reliability, cost and ease of installation)

Interested in peoples opinions. Not concerned about bhp or fuel economy. I just want a reliable, cost effective 400nm to get around with a bit less effort than current 3.5EFI.

Holden 5 litre EFI from a VN commy is almost approaching those numbers, with the right cam etc it will exceed them. BUT, if you want real low down torque, then a big capacity old school turbo diesel is the best bet IME.

Yeah but the Lans weighs more than 6 range rovers, and steam, well yes monstrous torque at zero revs so I concede that would be by far the best bang for buck for RRC engine upgrade

I thought most V8 LR slipped liners and such, therefore, were both petrol and steam

    - You mean 'Lanz' as in the Bulldog tractor ?

Hmm, with 10 litres of single pot power, torque would'nt be a problem !

(Your really ARE older than me... - Here's a recording to take you back down memory lane http://www.freesound.org/people/Erdi.../34367/?page=2 )

    - And the Doble steam cars did'nt use turbos either... It was said that if the car was restrained in place and opened up....it would instantly rip the tyres off the rims despite weighing (a well balanced) 2.5 tonnes

For the Model E, with 1,355 nM, Zero to 120km/h was 10 seconds, way better than my 3.9 Classic....

Didn't the Leyland P76 engine do about that? 4.4 litres and closely related.
4.6 from the P38 is 380Nm, I'm sure a little tuning can liberate the last 20Nm.

Your other options all involve transplanting a different engine in or boost to increase intake air density.

Stock P76 is 338Nm, easily tweaked up with a bit of tuning. A 4.6 Thor engine plus tweaks would still beat it handily.

I'm just fiddling with a high comp 4.6 I stuck in a customer's RR soft dash early last year, cold compression figures are 190psi. It goes well.

Problem with the Lance motor is they fired up running backwards sometimes, very funny to watch.

High comp. 4.6 with a high torque cam sounds about right. Wouldn't touch a bommodore 5lt motor if you paid me - gudgeon knock from the factory.

What would you be doing about the gearbox?
