Pertronix Ignitor 2

Hello folks,
My 1984 RR cut out suddenly in town the other day. It would restart only intermittently, had low power when it would start, and cut out again frequently. I undid the fuel line where it entered the carbies and there seemed to be fuel getting to the carbies. The spark looked good when the RACV man tested it. He noticed the low voltage pulses were intermittent.
I had it tilt trayed the few km home courtesy of RACV Total Care and wouldn't you know it, it drove on and off the tilt tray!
Anyway, it has an ingition sensor system I don't recognise. There is a red sensor inside the dizzy and a black ring over the dizzy shaft lobes. I can see no writing on the sensor or ring. I can see no ignition module either inside or outside the dizzy. The coil looks standard. The two wires on the sensor end up as the two blue wires, one on each side of the coil. See photos.
Does anyone recognise this system? I am assuming the go is to replace sensor and ring but I don't know what they are. Any suggestions on what they are or what to do next?
(Incidently there is no vacuum in the line from carbies to vacuum advance unit but that's another story.)
Thanks,
Roger

Thanks, but it's not the same. It has a flat face where mine is concave.

Roger there are very few igniters around and even fewer with hall effect rather than light chopper like Luminition. There are even fewer self contained ones in the distributor
It could be an earlier iteration of the current Pertronix, and I would give them a call to check.
AFAIK , and I haven't looked for many years , Pertronix is the only one generally available, and the red colour used to be their trademark .

Quick Google and I found this one that looks more like it.

Good little video on installation also. Be careful you use a points type coil not an electronic coil.

I'd chuck it as far as possible, replace it with an '85 to '93 model RRC or Discovery 1 distributor and coil, while using a Bosch BIM024 ignition module instead of the Lucas original.
Thread here on the Bosch module conversion.
Reasonably priced vacuum advance units from the UK.
Second hand distributor example
I agree with Beeutey.
You would have a high energy system with his suggestion and can run a electronic coil for much better spark. It is all explained in his thread.
The Accuspark and Pertronix are just igniters that replace points and must run a points coil.

Hi Roger,
my '85 has been converted to a bosch setup by Trav if you want to have a look at it next time your in Ballarat (to see how it was wired in)..... I imagine it won't be sold by then, especially given I've noticed I did a typo in the phone number field when I listed it on gumtreeI wonder what poor bugger has been getting all the weird phone calls about some old range rover for sale
You driven it .... The little 3.5 has amazing power and torque with that setup.
