Do you have an assembly from a post 2003 Defender? Don't bother with it the P38 type Rover diff is more trouble than its worth, stick with the Salisbury.
Has anyone gone down this path, I've got my hands on a rover rear axel with disc and am looking at the swap. Question I have is what drive shaft are people using as it looks like the current is going to be short?

It's from a td5 so yeah it's the diff you speak of I guess, I have an ARB locker and hi tuff axel and flange set to add to it. Or do you think I'm better off putting them in the front and still run the sauls assembly in the rear?
Been scratching my head about this for the last week...
Put the arb in the front with the flanges and see if hte will swap the axles you have for front ones.
Get a salisbury locker and shafts for the rear. P38 diffs are piles off poo. You will regret fitting one.
Cheers for the honesty fellas,
I had a Shorland APC and it had Salisbury axles front and back. From what I was told they are about as strong as a Dana 60. That's pretty strong and stronger than anything on a Disco (at least anything found on a Disco in the US).
A comparison of the rover diff and the salisbury (AKA Metricised Dana 60). The P38 diff fitted to the rear of 110s and 130s from 2002-on is the same physical size as a rover diff, just with a shorter pinion.
