osx is goodly, debian is goodly, ubuntu is a nice compromise...

but they all need to pull something out of the hat to catch up to this lot....

i'll feel like i need to rinse my mouth out... but it's true....

sure, it isn't the answer to everyone's needs but for the vast majority, the general populace that don't need to nor want to learn an OS in depth, it is a very successful release....

    fireproof coat at the ready....
Have you tried the latest Mint though? I got rid of Ubuntu too, I never tried debian. What issues were you having?
I surf the net no issues, do my accounts for the farm, word process etc. I can watch movies copy cd's listen to music if I want email everything, for most people I cant think what else you need to do.

Spreadsheets work on mine? My missus is the admin officer for the NQRA (North Queensland rifle association) and she does everything on the computer. I will ask her in the morning if she has had any issues I have not for sure.

    i already know the answer

while what you have may suit your purposes it would not suit a fairly big percentage of users.. in my experience.

a quick glance at the size of the user base of your favourite distribution would quickly show when compared to the already swelling userbase of windows 10

all the OS'es have their pluses and minuses, all of them have shortcomings.

people pick what is easy and convenient for them...

i would have been happy if it all stopped at OS/2

She said she has had no problems doing or printing anything, but maybe her uses are not what yours are. My uses are simpler again than hers thankfully

On a separate but related note be aware that the latest update of Adobe Reader(DC) does not appear to work as an add-on in IE11.

It does however work with Edge. ( NB correction, it doesn't work with Edge. Edge has its own PDF reader)

So if you prefer not to upgrade to WIN 10 and get Edge and upgrade to Reader DC then you won't be able to use IE11 to open Pdfs.

I have asked for any known fixes in another Thread, but after several hours on Google, the Adobe help area, Win help, there doesn't appear to be a simple answer. There is one suggested which involves changing the registry shudder! and there are questions as to whether it works.

Bull****! Heard of Wine, and Winetricks??
There are also four other downloads from the Software Centre, that allow the playing of Win-dos games in Linux Mint, Rafaela.
