    Storage or?

    I have found 7x750gb identical HDD's,,
no reason to think any are damaged.

    any ideas for usage?
I can also find enough parts to build pretty much anything other than a up to date gaming rig,,

a 7bay NAS is not on the cards,, but a big box running some form of raid array might be,,

    so after some research,
it looks like Freenas with ZFS z1( the motherboard i'll be using does support raid 5-- )
this gives me 3.75TB storage, with a recoverable loss of 1 drive,, and I have an identical drive as the spare.

all this to keep my vintage porn safe..
its more like just a learning thing

as the house runs on wireless I plan to add a modem (I wonder if my old GA-X38-DS5 has wake on LAN, and if that works on wireless? )use it as backup for everyone. Yes I know raids are not backup,, but they are,, sort of

    all and any advice accepted.

Ok,, will be using my old 2008? original ROME build,, (for those with long memories---the pics are here somewhere) so it has a Ga-X38-DS5 with a Core 2 Duo 6700 plus a Corsair HX 650 modular PSU with a half modern Gigabyte 620,, not that thats important,, ( for once )
What made anyone think they need 4 CD-ROM bays?
It has 8GB of DDR2-800 ram, which, FreeNAS apparently needs,, Took me around two hours tonight to troubleshoot 6 sticks of suitable but unknown ram into 8gb bolted in..
one of the lucky things about the MB is it has 8 sata ports,, one of the lucky things about the case is it handles 6 HDD's. not many do unless you go full tower-- but then I have never looked/bought/thought about 6 HDD's running together before ,,

well, 12 hours and no errors,, not bad really as theres 3 different manufacturers, and one with no name at all!!
    hmm whats next,,
I have a new 8gb usb drive to use for the OS,,
I have the OS on disc,

I am having trouble arranging power to 7 sata devices,, thought I had it covered by buying a molex 2 -- 4way sata splitter cable, and the one OE Corsair modular cable with two sata connectors,, thats 6, great I thought then remembered I swapped out the old CD-rom (molex and ribbon) for a newer sata DVD drive,, and now I'm one sata connection short--
