Optus bundle Vs Telstra

This month is my 2 year contract expiry with Telstra.
I currently have adsl2 3 gig 1500/256 at $69.95,plus home phone at $29 and extras of voicemail and second fax number for $5.
I also have a $30 Next G plan.

I usually spend a total of $175-180 which is about $145-150 discounting the Next G which I do not use much except as a modem while on holiday.

Optus do a "bundle" of 4 gigs ADSL2 apparently unlimited speed"up to 20MBPS", home phone, all local calls free, all long distance free, all calls to optus mobiles free, and voicemail for $79. Given accidents of $20 or so on calls to mobiles , I should save about $50 per month.

I bounced it off a friend who has the Optus $99 plan whiich is 20 gigs!, and he clainmed the extras killed him. We went through his bill and it seems his bad spot was calling other mobiles ( although he should have free to all GSM). I surmise he called next G , but he didn't know.
In the disclaimers there are exclusions for info, 1900, voicemail retrievals,
and "calling to other networks" Does this mean if you call long distance outside any city where Optus has a networkk you pay?
Anyone have good /bad experience?
Regards Philip A

Hi Phillip ;

why not go with iiNet's NAKED DSL and get the ULL line ( phone line ) included , if you're exchange offers ADSL2+ connection thru iiNET?

iiNet - ADSL - Broadband - ADSL2 - Naked DSL Plans

Just a suggestion...

Be careful of the fine print on some Optus plans - 15 cents per MB and it runs to 2GB before limiting to 64kbps.

That means you get hit another $300 for those 2 GB.

Thanks mate.
I had a look and no ADSL2 in my area. so I presume that they buy space from Telstra or Optus which both have ADSL2 in the exchange.
They have 4gig plus 8 gig off peak plus phone for $80 plus calls so dearer than Optus, but 8 extra gigs. AFAIK, I have never used my 3gigs on Telstra as I do not download movies etc.
Thanks again for the heads up.
Regard sPhilip A

hey

I tried optus and gave the phone back a week later.

Constant drop outs and no service.

went to Vodafone for mobile and internode which by the way are brilliant.
Never yet been bumped off.

Best of luck , the big companies do not reward loyalty.
So I always tend to shop around.

Best of luck.

Me, too. I'm back with Telstra. (I've debranded the Optus-branded 3G Nokia N70 phone, though. Unfortunately, it's not a Next-G phone.)

If your on 1500/256 it's not ADSL 2+ your likely to be on a rim or something like that which will limit you to telstra/resold telstra ports which is what iiNet will sell if they can't put you onto their equipment.

I would look at iiNet BB1 Home 3 + Phone 1 + iitalk pack
99.85 per month free local and national calls mobiles 29c/min no flag fall
You'll still have a primary line service the iiTalk is treated as a seperate line so that covers your current 2 lines as well

down side is you would most likley need a new ADSL router to handle VOIP ~$200

Well I work for iiNet, the company has 4 call centers in Perth(Head office too), Sydney and 2 overseas in Capetown and Auckland to give 2 call centres open at anytime in a 24 hour period.

you could have a look at Broadband Choice and maybe read through the forums there a good source of info for broadband in Aus
