Probably the usual broken cable. You'll have to remove the tailgate trim from inside & release the latch manually.

That would be a drama if you have a cargo barrier ( upper tailgate )

Similar thing happened in our D3. The accentuator (A$90 part) needed to be replaced. Like Scouse said, remove trim and replace. I found removing the trim very difficult, to the point where it was going to break under pressure. I took the easy option and went back to the dealer - they even said the trim was liable to crack when removing.

It is possible to remove the cargo barrier from outside the cargo area. Bit tricky, but possible. I had to do it recently as our cable broke...when the wife was attempting to drop off the kids at school, and the kid's wheelchair was in the back of the D3, between the cargo barrier and un-openable back door. Not the best time for it to go ;-)

On the to-do list is to make an emergency release for it. I know it's been done before somewhere.

Wow - mine went approx 2 weeks ago 2 days into a weeks stay on Straddie - major PITA esp as we were then planning 4 nights in Girraween last week as well (before Easter).

So I've only had access to the boot space and to the rear seats via the 2nd row. Again PITA as we have been ferrying 6 or 7 people around this whole time too.

I've booked a slot for Austral in the Valley to look at it next week as its under warranty...the motor whirs but nothing happens...
