    Diesel Filter(s)

Just wondering how many diesel filters are fitted to the D3.

I seem to remember reading somewhere about draining water from the separator during routine maintenance.

Is this referring to the filter next to the gearbox, as I can't see any others.

    Cheers

Unfortunately my workshop manual is in XPS format (windows version of PDF) and is not recognised by AULRO for uploading.

It indicates there is a water in fuel drain at the bottom of the fuel filter and you attach a hose to it and turn it 2 turns then turn on the ignition to position 2 until 100ml of fluid is drained and then you disconnect and tighten things up.

There is apparently a water in fuel sensor also exists - never knew that but it must not work well if people have been suffering water in fuel issues.

The above is for 07My on - I don't know about pre 07MY as it uses a different fuel filter.

Oh to actually answer your question - there is only one filter and that is near the gearbox under the car.

Found a converter - as I said above if your car is earlier than 07MY then the fuel filter is different so the information may not apply.

I had a look under a new Puma when it was on the hoist the other day and noticed the workshop had fitted an extra in-line fuel filter for the owner. I did ask about the brand but have forgotten it. I'll ask again. It wasn't a Lucas CAV but did have the clear bowl and a drain.

    Hi Ron,

Possibly a "water watch" system which certainly fits on a D3. Apparently Landrover will not warrant cars with water in fuel damage but also have issues allowing cars under warranty to fit water savers. Strange.
