Wheel Alignment / Tight Tolerance Mode

Car went in for service yesterday at LR dealer. I asked for a wheel alignment and asked if they put the car in TTM first (as has been discussed & recommended in various forums). As with their adjoining tyre shop they had never heard of TTM at the Service Desk. I explained it was a computer setting that should be engaged before doing the alignment etc etc.

Anyhow, they offered to make inquiries and on picking up the car they informed me that it was done as per instructions and I was the first car they had ever done in TTM! See attached disclaimer in my service record.

Not sure if others have activated TTM but maybe a first for a WA Disco!

Isn't that interesting? When I had my Coopers fitted to replace the wrecked and worn OEM the tyre installer was aware of the need for "special suspension mode" and recommended getting LR to do the alignment. The LR dealer was well aware of the requirements. Seems my (SA) tyre man knew more about LR suspension than your (WA) dealer.

The magic thing about the LR dealer is they have a tyre shop adjoining the workshop. It's a well regarded tyre shop and alignment place in its own regard.

For the dealer to put it in TTM it's a 100m drive to the other side of the building to get the alignment done.

It's the perfect way to apply TTM and then return the settings.

I can't believe of the 1000s of LR alignments they do they did not know this.

I bet though they are quietly celebrating the extra $100 they can now charge.

Well they clearly know nothing of aligning a D3/D4 - of course they do have to warrant their wheel alignment - especially when it has done as the manufacturer requires.

I would be using a different wheel aligner - one who actually know what they are doing.

When I bought my 2010 D4, I had some work done by a very reputable LR mechanic in Burwood And asked them to also do a wheel alignment but they refused. Sent me to an authorised LR dealer to do it as only they can put it into TTM.

A lot of independent tyre places with attached mechanic workshops are now able to put D4s in to TTM. My local guy in Newcastle uses a 'Snap On' portable diagnostic computer. Takes about 2 mins to put it in and out of TTM (l sat there and watched him do it). Now l can bypass the LR dealership.

It is staggering the Perth dealership had no idea, and even the tyre place should have known better.

When getting some tyres at a local tyre dealer I noticed a D3 getting a wheel alignment - I asked if it was in TTM and I was told yes. When I asked how did it drive the 15km from the dealer they said they did it themselves. I asked how and they said they lowered the suspension and locked it there ie lowered to access height and locked.

When I challenged them on this and explained that their process was not appropriate they the got defensive and said I did not know what I was talking about and that they were the experts.

Needless to say they will not be doing my wheel alignment.

Like many of the Melbourne forumites, I had my new D697 fitted and alinged at Camberwell TyrePower

I spoke to Boof (Michael) regarding alingment in TTM, but he said that we do most of the driving in normal height and uisng normal height is therefore the correct height to align in.

So my car D4 2.7L was done in normal height. It drives really well on the highway at speed and tracks straight without steering wheel vibration. It also had no problems with off road height in the Vic HC

I used to align it in TTM, the previous tyre place took it to MLR to put it in TTM

Tyerppower also said that they noticed tryre scrubbing in cars that were aligned in TTM

Interesting to see what happens with a few more km's when we do the simpson trip

Having never actually used TTM I would have assumed that TTM locked the suspension at about onroad height.

I take it from the above that is not the case - so what height does TTM lock the suspension at??
