Hi Gerald, No experience with the Frontrunner gear at this time. However, if you do remove your factory long rails I will be interested to turn them into some cash for you. I take it they are off a Disco 3? Let me know. - Cheers Matti
Hi All,
Has anyone fitted a frontrunner slimline 2 to their existing long factory roof rails.
I am contemplating to remove my factory installed long rails and use the frontrunner kit, this should provide better mechanical strength but will take longer.
I paid for another brand back in April, 3 weeks before leaving to Cape York, I am told, sorry end of September. The excuse is, Australia is a backwater and the quantity does not justify making 1. Now the task at hand is getting another rack with a short lead time and getting my money back before we go.
Happy to share the brand and shoddy company off line........
Regards
Gerald

Forgot to add - we are on the Sunshine Coast in QLD so you can drop them off on the way through to Cape YorkWe can even put you up for a night or two and you can go visit Australia Zoo as its only a couple of minutes form here.
Hi Matti4556,
At this stage I have opted for the kit that allows me to use the existing long factory rails due to lead times before heading north. This may change, so you are the first cab of the rank if the long rails are removed.

Gerald

SubscriberFrontrunner have just released a dedicated roof rail for the D3.
/4. It bolts into the existing OE roof roofnuts ( rivnuts ) and replaces the factory long rail. I will hopefully have it on my vehicle shortly. I will post pics and let you know how it goes.

Admiral, do you have factory fit short/long rails fitted. I understand it needs a special kit that has a short rail for the rear that bolts to three roof nuts on each side and a bracket that uses the front roof nuts!
I wonder if the kit also comes with a new dress rubber to replace the OEM rubber?

SubscriberHi Gerald. I have the full long factory rail. I understand the factory rail is removed entirely, and the new dedicated rail is bolted into place using the existing riv nuts, including the forward mount. The only rubber exposed, is the same strip left when the factory rail is fitted. The new rail has a reverse U shaped profile, contoured to the roof profile. The rail is continuous from the front to the back. There is a shorter length rail available for just the rear roof mounts. ( the flat section ) This can be used for the short racks like the 1.6. It does seem these are the only two choices for this new rail, but you can vary the length of the rack used on these rails. ( by changing the side rails )
i will be able to confirm more when I have the rail and rack fitted.

SubscriberOk here are the pics. The roofrack bolts direct into the rivnuts in the roof. The siderail can be removed and extra cross ribs fitted. The rear safari rail can be added/removed at will.

I like that the rack is not rigid across the vehicle and thus not interferring with body flex.
