    Bonnet Struts

    Gday All,

My bonnet struts failed and I finally got around to removing them and getting replacements. Took them to the local mob that sell struts and they said that a L/R owner was in about 2 weeks ago and they had to order them in. After a chat about them they said the Patrol bonnet struts are the same length only have a heavier rating.

They gave me a set to try and if they didn't fit they would order the correct ones in.

My D3 now has a set of Patrol struts which fit perfectly and I reckon will last twice as long, the bonnet still closes well and doesn't lift on the hinge's at all so assume the pressure is not to strong.

    $44 well spent I reckon.

    Cheers Ean

Speaking of struts my tailgate ones are in need of replacement ....

Disco has an aluminium bonnet so that would account for weight difference.

Many years ago I had an imported Toyota Camry hatchback. The hatch was very heavy and the struts gave up the ghost eventually. I had them regassed and they were fine until I sold the car many years later. Can't remember who did it but a google/yellow pages search should show something.

    Possible alternative solution ???

I am not sure but at a guess I would say the same vintage patrol so whatever the 2006 - 2009 model was. I know the bloke at the shop I can ring and find out.

I know the D3 strut is 230n and the Patrol strut is 330n and they are heaps bigger but the same length... I didn't ask the price for the L/R ones but I was happy with the price of $22 each all inc.

    Nomad9,

Check out the Strut Specialist in Osborne Park. He has re-gassed shocks as well as new ones. Have been going there for years and they will fit for you while you wait.

    Gas struts

Just look up "Struts Australia", they list all sizes and pressures. About 2 days delivery. If you look up by vehicle make then the price is triple.
