    Hopefully not one of us

Anyone see this on the news?

Car with boat attached 'burst into flames' on major Sydney road - 9news.com.au

There have been a number of these fires over the years unfortunately, another one in Frenchs Forest last month too.

Looks to be more intense on the passenger side.

That was a D3,what is the issue or is it different issues?

Been a couple on here as well,i think one was a petrol and was fuel related.

    Hi

    Yep it was mine

No warning, looked in review mirror to see smoke coming out behind the car and pulled over within 50 mts and when I got to the passenger side of the car flames & smoke from the front left wheel well.

Grabbed the fire ext form the boat and emptied it into and under the wheel well to no avail so disconnected the boat and pushed it back.

By this stage FB had been called and a passer by tried with his fire ext to no avail. He couldn't stay around as he was towing a van and had stopped on the other side of the road. would of liked to at least reimburse him for the extinguisher.

FB turned up and had some fun trying to put it out (1800lts of water in the truck) had to then connect to mains to finish the job. plastic, tyres, diesel & aluminum do burn well.

As to cause ????? no warning, no power loss on the motorway, best guess HP pump seal maybe but just speculating.

Had the car for 2 years (08 D3 HSE) and had it all set up for towing 3.5t van Now to sought out the insurance and start looking again

Could of been a lot worse (in remote bush with van & family comes to mind)

    Regards
    Bob

As others have said, the main thing is no-one hurt. You can always buy another car. Must have been frightening for you. Good work getting the boat away.
