D3 / D4 / RRS D3 / D4 zone is the place for all that specialist D3 / D4 info (and the RRS stuff even though they don't like to think of it as a disco).

Do you live in Melboure and own a D4 ?

If you own a D4, either 2.7 or 3.0 and are interested in helping some accessory manufacturers contact me via email. Typically you give up your car for a few days while they work on it and take some photos. In return you get a much cheaper accessory than would otherwise be the case, build some useful relationships and help other owners.

Surely, Robert, you don't need any help to be contacted by email!

I'm not kidding, are you?

"Buying their own damn D4" -- very few aftermarket manufacturers can afford to buy their own vehicles, and so without cooperation of owners it simply wouldn't be economically viable to develop accessories and then where would we be? Also remember the D3/D4 is a small market compared to say Prado, Pajero, Hilux so there aren't huge production runs over which to amortize costs, and the D3/D4 is more complex than the average car so development costs are certainly no cheaper than the normal.

In my experience of such companies many tend to be quite small and certainly not making the sort of profit that allows them to run large demonstrator fleets. And even the very largest depend to some degree on customer cooperation.

In some cases you may well get the item for free, depends on the situation but I don't want to set that expectation from the start. A heavy discount yes.

In the case of the D4 these guys have D3 accessories and are pretty sure they will fit with no or minimal modifications so it's lower risk and less work.

Anyway hopefully there's an owner or two out there willing to help others.
