D3 / D4 / RRS D3 / D4 zone is the place for all that specialist D3 / D4 info (and the RRS stuff even though they don't like to think of it as a disco).

e-diff

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can advise how you can tell if a D3/D4 has the optional rear e-diff fitted? Are there any controls in the cabin or does it all just operate magically as part of the TR system.

only can get underneath ya car, look up at the rear diff,, and if there is a big round looking motor ontop with a conector on it,, it has e-diff, if there is a big empty space its just a open diff,,

I can easily see the motor sitting on top of the diff of mine by looking in over the top of the right wheel at normal height.

I've never driven a D3/D4 without the rear e-Diff so one of you guys out there will have to confirm this for me but...

If you have the sat-nav display screen thingy in the middle of the dash (i.e. instead of a big hole!) Select the 4x4 info screen, stick it into a TerrainResponse mode and a padlock should appear over the rear diff if it's fitted.

Camel,
You cant rely on the Sat Nav unit as this does show both diffs on the screen regardless if u have only one or not. The difference is it does not lock/go red when in use.
Cheers.

Previous threads have also talked about the indication on the Sat-nav. Can the e-diff be present without the Sat-nav and if so is there still an "in-cabin" indication?

Shining,
Yes you can get a e-diff without the SatNav.
But unfortunately there is no indication inside the cab if you have one or if it is operating at any particular time.
Cheers.

Hi, I have just bought TDV6 D3 without rear e-diff. My previous car was Jeep Commander CRD with electronic controlled LSD's front & rear. Does the standard D3 have rear LSD and is their any electronic control as part of its traction control system? I understand the standard traction control is still pretty impressive and am surprised to hear the standard rear diff is an open diff.

Standard rear diff is a completely open centre. The traction control relies on operation of the brakes.
