    Biggest Tyres without Mods....?

    Hi All,

Whats the biggest tyres that can be fitted to a D1 without any cutting of the arches or rubbing on the inner arch?

265/75/16 (31.5") is what I'm looking at, but would be nice to go to 285/75/16 (33") if they require no mods?

Also rim size, would both of these need 16x8, or could I get away with 16x7 with the 265's?

    Thanks in advance!

Mate, this has been answered many times before, but here goes. 265/75 will not fit without some kind of lift and camel cut (they will foul on the rear fender). Body or springs. Needs to be 2" to make it worth while. Will fit on standard rims but you will probably need to adjust your stops on the steering. 285 will not fit without flares or bigger lift with offset rims

Thanks Klappers! I already have a 2" lift

I want a second set of rims just for off-road (I'll keep the std road tyres on the std rims) ....Hence the question for suggested rim size (I want black steels).

You will need to trim the rear guard or the tyres will do it for you (even 265's). Your best bet would be to find some 16x7 in a +10 offset (sunnies), These will sit flush with the standard guards and look okay.

    Tyre size

Presto, If you intend to run 31's, should be okay with no cut to guards.
Ran them for ages, with no real dramas.
They may rub from time to time, but no big deal.
Will need to adjust steering stoppers, to avoid tyres rubbing on radius arms on full lock.
Offset rims and a quick camel cut will do wonders, if you decide to go bigger.
If you go to 33's, you will need to cut guards, and some rubber flares or the expensive moulded ones.
Been through the various tyre sizes, and now running 35's.
I will give you some pointers at our next club meeting, but Grimace can also give you as much or more info to help.
    Cheers Dave

The Pic from pistolpete explains it all.
Minor cut to the rear guard, but not going to town and doing a full cut.
    Cheers Dave
