Question Help! Mechanic URGENTLY Needed! 94 Disco tdi

My Disco is overheating ... I was waiting on advice from a mechanic (and he can't get to our vehicle before March) but haven't heard anything and have a list of parts a mile long that I'm not sure we need all of and then of course we need them fitted to the vehicle!

We're at Ipswich (Qld, just west of) and the Disco seems to travel ok for about 4-6km or so and then it just heats up!

We had the Serpentine Belt (and a pulley?) replaced before Christmas as it had shredded itself, then we needed an 'overflow' tank (got a white 'spare' temporarily) but what I really need is someone who knows what the hell they are doing and won't charge us the earth!

I'm a Disability Pensioner, but have been saving for months to throw moolah at the Disco, I just need someone to do the work, ASAP, someone who knows what they're doing and is local and available (yesterday) as I've been badly burned before!

This temp over flow, is it still the highest point in the motor?
Have you bleed your cooling system?
    Oil level fine?
Checked to see if the water is flowing? Or a pressure test?
No water in the oil or visa vera indicating a blown seal?
    Blocked rad?

    Just my 2cents.

You need Dave, Blknight.aus on here. He's in Ipswich & is the Yoda of Land Rovers.
He may not be able to help too fast, mind you as he's usually pretty booked up. Send him a PM & see.

    Good luck.

If you can't get Blknight to have a look before the weekend, I'll gladly come up and see if I can diagnose it for you on Saturday.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

That would be totally awesome, jboot51 as Blknight has said he can't get to us 'til March (as he's the mechanic we'd been getting help from). Be more than happy to pay you for your trouble too - I never expect anything for nothing!

rb30gtr queried a sticking or failing thermostat and my hubby seems to think that a 'sticking' thermostat could explain the troubles we've been having since December with the overheating.

There are other 'issues', even though Blknight said ours wasn't the 'worst' Disco he'd seen and I know some of the parts we need to get (Karcraft have quoted us on over $700 worth, and we have the funds), I'm just not sure what we really need and don't want to bugger it up, basically!

Much appreciated jboot51 I can PM you with our address etc and will be eternally grateful as the Disco is our only means of transport and I wouldn't want any other vehicle, couldn't imagine driving anything else, it just wouldn't be the same!

Seriously Need Referral to Diesel/Landy Mechanic

Thanks to jboot51 who diagnosed a blockage in our cooling system (and cleared it) for us, so at least we're not over-heating anymore!

No success with Blknight, he's not got back to my last couple of PM's nor text messages, so I must presume he's done trying to help us

Can anybody recommend a Diesel/Land Rover Mechanic anywhere within cooee of Ipswich (Qld)?

As my Disco is my only means of transport (and I'm unable to walk unaided more than a few metres) I'm really stuck; have only been driving locally (within 8km of home) since Christmas (can't even get my daughter to school, she's training/busing it)!

Immediately we need the Timing Belt replaced, and we've a list of hoses/pipes to get (as I've been reliably informed that the radiator will need flushed etc) and am more than happy to get the parts (o'night from Sydney); long as we do need all of said parts.

I know we have other issues with the vehicle, the transmission will need attention post the timing belt replacement and cooling system hose/pipe replacements (some of which was done when we did the head in 2009), we've 'airy' brakes, a temp., fuel hose, shoddy shockies etc etc ...

I really need to find someone who can help us out. I know Blknight is the Yoda of Land Rovers but he's seemingly up to his eyeballs and as we've more than one issue to be attended to, it won't be a one off fix, we need someone who can provide ongoing maintenance (maybe for another 20 years ... my Disco'll be 20 this August)!

    HELP!!

let me re-give ya a bunch of hints...

    • since Im still waiting to get that information from you...
    • Have advised you on no fewer than three occasions to chase me for info just in case Its slipped through the cracks or if Ive been too busy and have simply not gotten to it
    • you were advised of my schedule well in advance of my schedule when you missed the afternoon I cleared for you (and even then I still squeezed you in on another afternoon for a quick look which is when the auto dipstick and refailing hose on the fuel supply line was identified)
    • if you've sent a text much after say the day I went overseas with work I wont have gotten it as my phones not got intentional roaming

your presumption is now self fulfilling and correct.

I hope your apparent "relative who is a mechanic" that you were pumping me for information for you to palm to him knows his stuff.

Dont forget you still need to
    • redo your suspension bushes (primarily shockies, steering dampner and pitman arm)
    • your fuel lines
    • service and flush the auto
    • replace or repair the trans filler tube
    • you're overdue for the lash adjustment
    • the diesel is delaminating/softening your right hand engine mount and quite possibly is getting back to the trans mount.
    • you have rubs on the top radiator hose where its not correctly restrained
    • I was suspicious of your bottom hose on the intercooler going spongy
    • the crank case vent oil seperator needs cleaning and its got weeps on the pipe
    • the rocker to sump vent hose is going bad and weeping
    • the rocker cover gasket needs working on
    • your battery is on the way out and undersized
    • your earths and terminals need cleaning up
    • your Tcase output seals need doing and its either the sump seal or intermediate shaft seal thats also leaking and in need of repair

I'd ask you to bring back my spare expansion tank and I'll refund it so I still have the one for the missus car but I'll file that under "if you lend someone $20 and never see them again it was worth it" and buy another one.

Hey, best of luck and all but dont bother calling again.

Blknight, I did send through that info that we were waiting on as soon as I got it, which was the first couple of days in February, on the forums here (took me a while to try and work out how to do it, but I scanned it as an image and inserted it in the pm) ... I noted you'd replied to others posts and was wondering why you'd not presumably seen mine, so I sms'd you twice, I think it was, to let you know we had it and that I'd sent it to you ... what else was I supposed to do?

As for my relative who was willing to help out with a few of the hose replacements, that was in order to try and sort the overheating we had at that point in time as I was still very unsure as to what parts we need/ed ... and to also make it less of a job for you to do when you were able to get to us.

I know you've gone out of your way for us, I never intimated anything different and have and always will be most appreciative ... and as to paying for the tank, that was our intent next time we saw you as I've no other way to get money to you

I'm so sorry you feel the way you do ... I did get the info for you, I did contact you more than once and I have every intention of paying you for the tank (always did, never expect anything for nothing) so I'm really confused as to what I've done wrong and that has so upset you?!?!?
