How I fitted an Airflow Snorkel to my 1997 300TDi auto egr edc

Using the template that came with the snorkel I managed to drill one mounting hole in the wrong place but luckily it is covered by the snorkel body. I did read the bit on the template that tells me this is not accurate and taking that into account I still screwed it up.
Next was shifting the air filter box to allow the section of snorkel that runs inside the engine bay space to fit. As my Discovery has EGR and EDC this was not going to be easy. I ordered a set of silicon intercooler hoses as my rubber ones had past their use by date. I also had to order a replacement bottom radiator hose as the one for EGR vehicles has a pipe come out the side of it exactly where I needed to shift the air box to. So EGR removed and home made blanking plate fitted, silicon intercooler hoses and new radiator hose fitted it was time to move the throttle body over. A bit of 8mm plate steel was used to shift the t/b about 35mm towards the engine. Once that was done the air box had to moved 65mm towards the engine so I folded up a piece of 1.5mm plate for the front air box mounts and a seperate rear mount and bolted these through existing holes to the engine bay. I now have everything ready to fit the snorkel into the engine bay and cut out the air box foir it. This where I stood back for a few days because I was not happy with the instructions or parts for this part of the job. There was no way I could line up the snorkel section to fit into a hole to be drilled into the air box. Something else had to be made to fit. Fortunately I had some 80mm Marley down pipe lying about and compared that to the snorkel, I was pleasantly surprised to see they are a similar size. So off to the local hardware and buy 3 80mm Marley 95 degree bends (they do not do 90 degree) I trimmed one down for length and fitted it through the inner guard hole and glued a short section of downpipe into this. Then I got the other 2 bends and adjusted their length before gluing them together. Luck was on my side as the short round section that comes out of the air box into the factory pipe will fit inside a short piece of Marley 80mm pipe as long as I cut a 10mm section out of it. So now I had to join all my bends together so off to the hose shop and buy a short section of spiral flexible hose. A bit of wiggling about to fit the joint between the outer snorkel and first bend all up inside the mudguard. Next was to glue the now u-bend to the iar box and fit the joiner pipe to the other end.
All done. I even managed to shift the wheel chock over and fit it between the u-bend and the jack can still be left in its original position.
Obviously this method will not work if you want/have a second battery in place on the left hand side but you could use this as a base and fettle something else to fit.
