    fitting Radio to d1

Hi All, im in need of a little help, i have decided to fit a cd player to my D1, so i removed the original radio and stacker and fitted a sony head unit, the problem i have is, that the rear subs dont work in the rear door anymore, i realised that there is a black plug on the back of the old head unit with a red and black wires to it, are these for the rear amp? and if yes how do i connect them up.

    Cheers PAUL

According to RAVE, you are right in that the red/black shielded wires are for the subwoofer amp - you're going to have to read the sony instruction manual as to how to arrange hooking them up, as it varies from audio maker to audio maker. Highly possible that you will need to solder some new connectors to suit the sony outputs.
It can't be that hard - after all, the subwoofer only controls those two speakers in the rear door.

I found the wiring colours for the radio VERY confusing - one issue being the colours before the connector to the factory Eurovox unit are not the same as the colours after (specified in rave). I used the following to help me cut and crimp the new stereo wires to the old one - it still amazes me that there is no consistency at all between the different manufacturers!

The "sub's" are located in the tailgate on the S1's.

No consistency, get used to that!
Get yourself an AA battery or similar. Solder one wire on each end. This becomes your speaker finder. Or 'popper'. There will b a group of wires in the loom which are mostly the same colour. These will be the speakers. Get the new speaker popper tool you've just made, and start mating wires. There will be one solid wire colour and one the same colour with a tracer colour. Match the closest and pop them with the battery. You won't damage the speakers. You will also be able to pick the phase, with experience....

You may find that the standard Disco amplifier in the back will never work. I rewired mine a month or so back and just ran feed wires directly from the speakers in the C (or D?) pillar to the speakers in the rear door.
When I bought my D1 the previous owner made a comment about not be able to get the new radio to work with the old amp.

    YMMV...
