    G'day mate

I change my filter when I give the 300tdi a service every 5000k. Prob over kill but I just rebuilt my engine so I wanna keep it running for a while. With the rear pretty sure it's just a empty and clean out process as that's all I do.

You should change the fuel filter at every 10,000klm service.
on the TDI this should be less than $25.00 for a quality brand.
A land rover specialist will be cheaper than repco's for filters.

Yeah sounds about the right price and I do everything myself which helps on the $$$$ plus I get a kit from British 4x4 (Alan) which has everything o need for about $60 -$70 Next day delivery. don't quote me on that but it's around that price Or cheaper ,reckon it's alot cheaper than repco. I have heared of chaps leaving the fuel filter for a lot more than 15000k but just have to remember things like bad fuel and contamination in it.

My rig has done over 350000k and after the rebuild I rather it lasting another 350000k even if it means changing every 5000k. Reckon it just comes down to own preferance and how much u love ur landy

I always carry a spare fuel filter when i am travelling in the outback.I have had instances of contaminated fuel when fuel is transported by drums/ smaller bulk carriers in small centres. Underground tanks ( not always a perfect seal) can be covered by floodwater and it is good to know which distributor is is above flood level after recent flooding. Billm

I change my filters and oil every 5000kms...sometimes I can tell when my fuel filter is dirty as it has the same symptoms as a petrol engine spark plug 'hunting' or missing....as for the sedimenter...I usually empty it once per year by removing it completely (the plastic bung will snap if you try to unscrew it)
