    Front recovery point fitting

    G'Day,

Went to fit my front recovery points today and found the kit is far from bolt on. To avoid using spacers to clear the steering proctection bar, would placing recovery point inside of both chassis rails be satisfactory rather than the outside of rails?

I can see in a snatch situation they wont have the rail to support them but mainly the heads of the monutnig bolts but if I fit on out rail they need to be packed out with spacers which would lessen the strength anyway...

    What is your thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Rez

Kit is a 4x4 intelligence kit. My Disco is all standard in the front with the exception of a LR nudge bar.

    Hi Rezley,
I have a similar recovery point on the front of mine and I also have a nudge bar. Just had a look underneath and it is mounted to the same 3 bolts that hold the nudgebar and track rod protection bar - mounted on the inside of the chassis rail. There doesnt seem to be any problem with clearance to the track rod protector because it goes off towards the rear.

Can you explain your problem more?

    Some pics attached.

Where steering proctector goes from flat bar to tube it fouls the recovery point (if fitted on outside of rail). Or if fitted on inside my only issue is the tow point on nudge bar which I'd cut off for clearance.

So if I space the recovery point out to clear steering protector it weakens the whole setup and then the supplied bolts are no longer long enough.

I could grind some of the recovery point out to clear the steering protector but it really shouldn't need it. The instructions are very straight forward but there is no way it applies when actually fitting them.

You could try to bend the steering protector out so it fits to the outside of the rec point and rec point sits against the shassy. I had to bend mine a bit when fitting the bull bar. Having said that I can't see a problem fitting it on the inside of the shassy. As long as the bolts a long enough, Probably use 1/2" high tensile bolts 5" long would suit.

    David,

If I bend steering protector out I'll still have the problem of the tube fouling the recovery point as it flares from flat tube to round tube. I may try this with a washer or two in between for clearance. I bought some longer bolts this morning. Hopefully I can get some progess happeing after work.

    All fixed, thanks guys.

Not ideal considering it should have been bolt on but....after bending steering protector arms outward half an inch, buying longer high tensile bolts and then using washers as spacer to keep the arms off the recovery point I now have them fitted.

Now I just need to knock the bottom of the nudge bar off for bit of extra clearnace on d-shackles if being snatched up-hill.

    Cheers,
