TD5 EGR Blanking - which kit?

I've noticed there are 2 kinds of kits for blanking the EGR on a TD5.

    [1] blanks the exhaust
[2] blanks the exhaust & removes the inlet butterfly

If I just blanked the exhaust and blocked the vacuum controls for the butterfly, so that it could not be closed, how would that be different from fitting the more expensive kit [2]?

    Thanks, Michael

I got mine online from TD5 Alive. You remove the whole vacum valve and pipe with this kit.
Looks nice and tidy, would reccomend it.

The difference is that that the stock EGR butterfly offers a restriction to airflow, where as the inlet that comes with the kits, does not have a butterfly in the airflow.

I havnt done the flow numbers, but if you are chasing power and torque, it WILL make a difference.

Tombie on here quite often has these kits available.

The main thing is to remove the restriction that the EGR butterfly causes.

You will need to also blank off the inlet pipe. Once this is done, the rest of it is up to you. Remove the vacuum servo & associated plumbing, blank off the cooler at the front of the rocker cover etc.

I went the whole way & took everything out, as it makes for a neater job & I couldn't see the point in leaving it in there if it wasn't doing anything.

Me too. Took off just what I had to for the desired result. I made sure to keep everything. Never know when you might want or need to put it back. Who knows, Bob Browns eco-police could be with us someday.
BTW Gregg your link took me somewhere else.

    Here is Tombie's website:

    TRT - Total Rover Tech

and here are the instructions from his site:

    TD5 EGR removal

Just one thing to note, Tombie doesn't do this full time. He works away for a week at a time, so if there is a delay in getting a response, dont panic, he will get back to you when he is next able.

I got one of his kits for a mate of mine, and helped him install it. The kit is very well put together, and has everything you need.
