    Any advice,thinking of buying 2001 disco2

    Hi guys,
    I'm looking at a 2001 es tdi5 4speed auto, it has about 185000k on the dial, Ive never owned a disco before and just wondering if there is any particular issues on this model I should be cautious of??

    Any help would be great.

    Welcome!

    I have an 02 Td5 and it's fantastic.

    Things to look for...
    1. Service history!!!!
    2. Oil in injector loom plug at the ecu
    3. Make sure the oil pump bolt has been loctited
    4. Check for CDL internals
    5. fuel block leak


    Search is your friend.

    abs, tcs lights staying on when driving
    signs of oil leaking on the brake backing plates of the rear brakes.
    oil leaks from transfer case, engine, transmission and diffs.
    vibration from engine at idle in gear when stationary.
    vibration between 90 and 115 kms hr.
    vibration at 2250 rpm when free reving and while driving
    universal joints in the front and rear prop shafts have been replaced with servicable ones. ie grease nipples in all unis.
    cracks in rear rubber coupling where rear shaft bolts to the rear diff
    inside drivers door where the hinges are isnt cracked when the door is opened as wide as it will go
    chips in the windscreen
    all switches inside the car work ie. windows, fuel release and so on.
    check for the car leaning to the right or sagging on the drivers side.
    check that the trans shifts smoothly and the torque convertor locks at about 80 km hr
    check low range works.
    if it has sls suspension that it works
    coolant looks like coolant and not mud.
    service history
    and so on. Hope i didnt scare you but i would check most of these things on an car i buy.

    ensure that ALL the in-dash warning lights self-test on start-up,,,
    and there are a few--

    What's with this one? Mine did it when I bought it, but seems to have stopped after I took the car on a long drive (600k day after I bought it).

    Generaly this is a sign of engine and or gearbox mounts sagged. If its gone away after a long drive possibly the exhaust mounts. I say this because once the exhaust mounts get hot they soften up slightly. Also maybe the exhaust moved during the long drive.
    Either way if the vibration is gone then be happy.
