    D2 Wheel Options

I would like to suggest that this gets made into a permanent thread.

If people could put up any information they have on wheels that fit a D2 and some specifications on them for people to use as a reference in the future.

    As a start here is some informationt hat I have found, feel free to add to the list;

    Standard Wheels

    16x7, 16x8 & 18x8 all with a +57mm offset.

    Aftermarket Alloy Wheels

    Allied Wheels
    • Currently do a 16x7 (Vantage) alloy that can be drilled and spaced to your specifications. Each rim is rated to 1250kg.
    • They are about to release a 16x8 in a different pattern that can be drilled to LR spec and choice of offset. Each rim is rated to 1250kg.
    ZU Alloys
    • These are expensive, hoever they now do both 16 & 18 inch rims to suit the D2 with around a +40mm offset and each rim is rated to 1400kg and ADR approved. These use the std alloy wheel nuts as well.
    Aftermarket Steel Wheels

    Dynamic Wheels
    • Dynamic do both a 16x7 and 16x8 steel wheel with a +30mm offset, although these fit easliy on the D2 and look good they are technically illegal as the wheel track is increased by a total of 54mm, maximum on a solid axle vehicle if 50mm increase.

Excerpt From Les Richmonds web site below - I found this very handy

    RIM SIZE
    A: 15” Steel
Sizes available are 15” x 7”, 15” x 8” and 15” x 10” (although hard to get). Depending on what other modifications are done the offset on these rims is most likely required to be altered. Eg: A 31” x 10.5” tyre will fit on a 15”x 7”/8” but will not fit under a standard arch as the offset is too far inward. Fitting 33”/ 35” x 12.5” tyre on the same rim with flares does fit but the rim should be modified outward to achieve maximum steering lock, articulation and looks. The other drawback with 15” rims is to use a tall tyre there is not many thin versions available except for specialist tyres like Simex.

    B: 16” Steel
Readily available in 16”X 7”. We choose to use factory rims like Discovery I steel rims and modify these to achieve the optimum offset for the chosen tyre. The advantage is a 33” tall tyre is available in 10” or 11.5” wide, a lot thinner than the 15” equivalent. The draw back is at the moment there are no 35” size tyre available except for the specialist range like Simex.
    C: Alloy or Steel
Alloy rims are lighter and look more attractive but personally I do not think them to be practical. They are strong but brittle, they cannot be repaired easily and the offsets cannot be altered.
Steel rims are heavier and sometimes can look plain. They are very strong, repairable in the bush if bent and can achieve most required offsets.
Most clients own an alloy set for road tyres and a steel set for offroad work.

    TYRE SIZE AND MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED.

A: Under 31” tyres in diameter on standard offset.
    REQUIRE
Nothing these tyres will fit under most Land Rovers.

Note: Be careful of 31 x 10.5 tyres on sunrasia style rims as the offset of these rims is too far outward and can cause panel damage.

B: Between 31” to 32” in diameter on standard rim offset.
    REQUIRE
Range Rover Classic will need to install a body lift kit of about 1”
Discovery I owners will also need to modify the rear wheel arch. (Use Wheel arch trimmer). View CLICK HERE

Discovery II owners will require no extra work
Defenders already run a 32" tyre from factory.
Note: Running 32” tyres on standard offset rims will decrease the amount of steering lock available. Eg: The vehicle will not turn as sharp as it does now.

C: Up to 33” in diameter on standard rims.
Defender can use 0mm rims here

    REQUIRE
Range Rover Classic will not fit under the wheel archs!
Discovery I owners will not fit under the wheel archs!
Discovery II will not fit under the wheel archs!
Defender will fit set of 255 x 85 x 16 or 33" x 10" tyres. Turning circle will be affected.

D: Up to 33” in diameter on off set rims.
Range Rover classic, Discovery 1 and Defender use -25mm rims
    Discovery II use +30mm rims
    REQUIRE
Range Rover Classic and Discovery I will also need a 2” minimum body lift kit and will need to fit flares.
Discovery II owners will require fitting White Tiger kit Discovery 2 XL flare kit and +ve 30 offset rims preferably 16"x 8"
Defender will need to fit a set of White Tiger flare extensions CLICK HERE

E: Between 33” to 36” on offset rims.
Range Rover classic, Discovery 1 and Defender use -25mm rims
    Discovery II use +30mm rims
    REQUIRE
Range Rover Classic and Discovery I will require a 2 - 2 1/2” body lift kit and will need to fit the XL White tiger flare kit.
Discovery II owners will require a White tiger 2" suspension dropping kit and White Tiger XL flare kit.

    17in alloys on a 2001 L2 Td5

A year ago, I bought a 2001 Td5 with 17 inch alloy wheels and 235/65 tyres (pic attached). Definitely not standard that adds about 5% to my road speed. The spare is a 16 inch alloy with a very worn 245/70 tyre.
I can't source a 17 inch alloy to replace the spare - can anyone suggest a supplier. Thanks.

Thanks guys - I never would have guessed it was an X5 rim, especially with the LR logo button fitting so neatly into the centre hole. The previous owner did a lot of weird things to this D2, and X5 rims are right up there.
    Thanks again for the help.

Just an update to this thread. I know this is stated elsewhere, but when fitting D3/D4/RRS or BMW X5 rims to the D2, you also need a centre wheel hub adapter to cater for the larger hub diameter and to ensure the rims stay centred on the D2.
