    D2 BCU Dead ?

    help !!
did a search and couldnt find my problem elsewhere.
last night at about 3 am the alarm on D2 went off. weird as no volumetric sensors and no doors were opened.
disarmed alarm and rearmed and though nothing more of it.
until half hour later it did it again.
so i thought i would lock with key, rather than remote fob
reset and this time alarm went off immediately.

reset and left unlocked for the rest of the night/morning.

this morning started up car and warning chimes and a D with a cross hash through it where shifter position indicator is. so no dash shift position.
also, when i got out aND LOCKED IT WITH FOB, NO DOOR LOCKS AND NO INDICATORS.
    drive car and no indicators.
remote fob sets and disables alarm, but not lock or unlock doors.
no indicators or hazards at all.
inside door lock cetral lock button does nothing.

all this to me points to BCU ?
it was raining hard last night so i though water in BC?U, but no obvious signs of it

i have another D2 same specs, can i swap the BCU over to test it ?
do i need to reprogram the BCU to the car ?

    well.
left key in ignition for 5 minutes, i read somewhere this lets the BCU reconnect somehow. turned off and now it starts again. but still same problem.
i have however just taken out the under dash fusebox and found some corrosion on some of the tracks. will clean as good as posible and see how that fairs.

all this in a camping ground 20 klms out of kalgoorlie.

not the ideal place to break down.
cold as hell working out there on it at the moment

    good news

    all working again

ended up was corrosion on the tracks in the back of the fuse box under drivers dashboard.
didnt get a chance to take pics as we are in the middle of a camping trip. but when we get back to civilization i will take it apart and clean it up properley and taKE PICS.

my guess this is going to be an ongoing problem. looks like the inevitable windscreen leaking has caused this, so only more people will end up with the same problem i guess.

will also check the other car now i know what to look for.

bonus is all the connectors to ECU BCU Fuse boxes and Earth points were all cleaned and reconnected, so hopefully wont be any other niggling probs on this car for a bit to come.

    Fuse box removal

    Hi Rosscoe68.

How did you go about removing the fuse box under the steering column to remove the corrosion? Did you unclip the housing and leave it connected or remove it completely? The workshop manual doesn't give any details to perform this task.

i have done it twice now, decided to check my second car, and it was ok.
kind of awkward, but not really too challenging.
i think only 1 10mm head nut holds it in place, but the wiring connections were a bitch to get undone and as the wiring looms are so thick there is not much flex and room to work there. once out it was a matter of prising open the plastic housing with a fine screwdriver and cleanup the circuit board
good luck with it, and p.s. what are the symptoms ?

On the issues of screens leaking in D2's. I just had mine pulled and replaced as it was leaking a third time and the guy who did it this time actually ran two beads of sikaflex around the perimeter and pulled EVERYTHING apart including the panel around the wipers. Last time and I've seen it done on others they clean under it and run the glue then push the glass down into the space left.

Rained on the way home while still soft and was parked outside since done on Friday morning in this wonderful Sydney rain and nothing so far.
