Thread: Missing transmission plug/bolt?

I would guess it's the drain hole in the bell housing but it looks like it's in the wrong place. One puts a plug in it when wading or fording streams. It's probably covered in the owners manual. The plug is usually stored in a tapped hole elsewhere in the bell housing (at least it was on earlier cars).

I'll see if I can find a D2 owners handbook here somewhere. I can't see the bolt in the parts list drawings.

Late edit: Nope, not covered in the Owner's Handbook. That blows my theory out of the water.

After you mentioned it might be the bell housing I did a search on this forum and found similar posts asking the same question (with similar pics), and the responses indicated pretty much what you've said.

Looks like you have found out what it's for.
But for those who havn't I thought it best to post.

It has a thread in it and is used when locking the flywheel(and therefore the crank shaft)when doing the cam timing.
