    D2 TD5 auto fuel economy

    For what it's worth, I've just driven from Wangarattta to Sydney, then back to Perth via the southern coastline (5,800 km) in my just acquired MY04 D2 TD5 auto - 2 people plus luggage and a couple of extra parcels.
    Except for one section, I made a concious decision to travel at 100 kmph rather than 110. Much of this was on cruise control with a/c on to keep SWMBO happy.
    The 500 km test section done at 110 kmph between Pt Wakefield and Pt Lincoln (cruise control, rolling hills plus a/c) resulted in 11.2 L/100 km or 25 mpg.
    Best section was Albury to Sydney sitting on 95 kmph on the Hume Highway and no cruise control or a/c resulting in 8.5 L/100 km or 33 mpg.
    Average fuel consumption for the total trip was 9.7L/100 km or 28.8 mpg (includes best and worst). If anyone wants more info happy to oblige.

    Sounds about right, I'm only driving mine (03 TD5 auto) around town at the minute and getting about 11l/100km. Couple of small highway trips I'm definatly finding she's happy cruising along at 105-107. Hopefully a snorkel should help it breath a little better.

    Yep - sounds right. With our fully loaded 03 TD5 auto including a double kayak an OZtent on the roof we average around 11.1, 11.5, 12.5 and 13.5 L/100Km at a steady 95, 100, 110 and 125 Km/h (in the NT of course ) on the highway.

    Happy & car is brilliant so far - no trouble in 6,000 km and the lack of on tap power suits my new senior citizen temprament and driving style. Once I get WA plates and basics sorted (proper electrics for braked trailer etc, front recovery points, snorkel and CB for starters) I'll be looking to be sociable. I would then also would like some advice on driving with these new fangled autos with proper 4WD, HDC etc. Still cogitating on the lift options and open to suggestions. Have a few coldies in the fridge if anyone would like to come and jawbone!!

    if you really want to be miserly with it you can crack into the 7l/100 bracket.

    more importantly how was the rest of the trip and what have you got planned for the disco now?

    Coming back from the 10th Anniversary gathering at Mendooran, 3 people, loaded for bush camping, oztent on roof, roof bag, drawers, fridge, yada, yada, (all the **** you take away ... way too much) trying to average about 95kmhr (90 on the speedo) we did 10.01 L/100km (28.22mpg).

    The run up there, loaded, with 2x off road runs in/out, and out to Dubbo & return for a day was 11.55L/100km (24.46mpg)

    My long term average on/off-road for the last 2.5yrs is 12.01L/100km (24.02mpg)

    With a manual maybe,i have tried really hard with the auto's i have had& the best ever was mid eights....

    But then again maybe i gotta try with a good tail wind

    you need to do some tweakery and drive in ideal circumstances to hit it with an auto but it can be done, its not fun but its achievable.

    And that was the point at which I lost interest....LOL

    Tombie said I would get better fuel economy with his tune, as soon as the fun of the extra power wore off.... still waiting for THAT to happen....

    Low 10's on a day trip Adelaide - Melbourne - Adelaide, and low 12's day to day, in & out of the city....
