    Cruise Control Diagnostics

    Hi all,

Recently I had an issue with the cruise control where it stuck on and made it quitye an adventure in shutting down and pulling over. Given it was coming up Mt Ousley from Wollongong, crossing the top under the speed sign flat out and accelerating adventures now my middle name (along with brown shorts).

After stopping, shutdown engine by key and let roll to stop (didn't turn off by button despite light going out on button & dash). I unpluged the control unit in the engine bay and all was good.

Pluged back in and now I get light on button but nothing on dash and no response from setting. Replaced all hoses in case of vaccum leak. Nothing.

Is there noises I should hear at activation from the vaccum pump, in the wiring which colors should I have power at at both the switch and pump ends of the wiring. I have checked all the fuses (under bonnet & dash) and all are ok, is there a relay I should check out?.

    Thanks in advanmce,

    Justin

Hi Justin, have you got the D2 electrical library manual?
You have a Td5 auto yeah?
CC has it's own ECU behind the trim in the RH A post, so maybe have a squiz at that?
Brake pedal SHOULD interrupt the feed to the ECU; as it stops the pump, opens the internal dump valve and closes the internal control valve, which should all stop the throttle actuator, so could be an issue with them?
If it happens again, knocking it into N should also de-activate it.
Brake light signal is used also to de-activate it so maybe check that?
The feed from the battery +ve terminal is a red wire through to the engine fusebox, pases fuse 16 and fusible link 8.
Feed from fuse 16 then passes to the coil of the horn relay, and then to the set and suspend switches via a PO (Pale orange?) wire, through header C0286 and the rotary coupler.
Looooots of info in the PDF, too much for me to regurgitate here but send me a PM if you want and I can send it to you. Also have the wiring diagrams if you like.
    Cheers

Here is a pic of the wiring diagram, unfortunately it's for LHD vehicles, but the wire colours should still be the same.
    Hope this helps.

I've recently had my cc looked at in my 02 td5 auto and they came to the conclusion that td5's don't have a control box while the v8's do? Tyry also mentioned something about a cc ecu My issue is that the light comes on the binnacle but not on the dash, and on the nanocom it doesn't show it as engaging. It sounds as though we may now have a similar issue; though my cc hasn't worked since I got it.

The TD5 doesn't have the dedicated Cruise control ECU only the V8 has that small black box - located behind the driver's side kick panel.
The TD5 cruise control is done in the engine ECU.

The only light indicating CC is on is the one in the binnacle switch.

That wiring diagram is for the V8 only! Which clubagreenie is talking about -sounds like a cc pump problem.

The TD5 is different - it doesn't have the pump or the Cruise Control ECU - but has the same switches.

Thanks gaz. This is what I thought. Looks like I'm back to square 1.

Well I do have the V8, so I should have the box, will start there with looking at is it plugged in ok. From there, thanks for the diagram. I'll print it out and turn it over so it suits RHD.

Hi, let us know the result. Mine lights up on thee dash button, but doesn't work anymore. They appear to have a different set up than the D1s.
