Low range.
CDL engaged with symbol on dash.
1st Gear?
Not touching any of the pedals?
Were there any fault lights on the dash? ABS/TC/HDC?
Ok people, I need a bit of help here.
I was out playing with my new second hand D2a when I thought I would give the HDC a try out on a nice steep and loose descent.
After reading my manual I stopped just short of the descent and engaged CDL and low range (in manual mode), I then engaged (possibly) the HDC and all I got was an endless chime until I disengaged the HDC again. The D2 went down the descent nicely but with the chime sounding relentlessly. I then went back up and tried it again with every combination of controls I could think of but still with the same result of the chime going off all of the time.
My manual tells me that if the chime is going constantly then the vehicle has not yet met the "parameters" required for the HDC to work.
What am I missing here. On every occasion I went down the descent the vehicle performed nicely but with the chime continually ringing.
Am I doing something wrong ?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers, Rick.

Hi Sniegy,
Yes, all as you say. Can't work it out.
Manual says HDC can be selected at any time but only works in low range etc.
If I am in hight range at 20kph and select HDc the chime starts up and keeps going. I would imagine the chime would sound when i pressed the switch but not keep going. I'm not really having a problem with this as I can select 1st low and crawl down the hill but if I have HDC it would be nice to know it works.
Cheers, Rick.

Thanks Pedro, thats more info than in my book.
I'm at work at the moment but will go and have a play tomorrow.
I haven't used HDC before. Looking forward ti it.
Cheers, Rick.
Hey Rick, I had the exact same thing, the chime is telling you that it is not set up correctly (parameters) or something is wrong with part of the system, In my case it was a front right hand wheel sensor, to check, jack up 1 wheel at a time in neutral engine running and spin the wheel you should get a speed reading on speedo, if nothing happens when spinning the wheel you have (more than likely) a faulty wheel sensor, I didnt get any amigo's or any other warning when mine failed and I only knew when I tried to use HDC that something was wrong with the chiming going on and on, once you get to a steep decline, put into low, engage as in my case CDL manually, 1st gear auto and just idle over the hill, once over take feet off pedals and enjoy the ride, unbelievably good at what it does. had new sensor fitted and worked like a charm.
cheers
Ken

You have a problem somewhere with the abs mate. Hdc will start pulsing the brakes well above 20kph.
Cheers
Thanks for that guys.
Got a cpl of days off after the weekend so looks like I will be doing some jacking and spinning before i do anything else.
If it is a wheel sensor, can it be repaired/cleaned or do I need to replace it ?
Cheers, Rick.
If you are in high range it will chime continuously. The sections from RAVE that Pedro posted are a far better description of how the system works than the owners manual, especially when you are trying to sort problems.
Restating the obvious, the conditions for HDC to work are dependent on all conditions being true:
- Low Range selected, and;
- Speed below 50kph (you'd be hard pressed to do 50kph in low range anyway), and;
- a forward or reverse gear selected. If you have the auto or transfer case in N the chimes will sound continuously.
This suggests another two possible causes of problem. If the xyz switch on the auto is not indicating position or the TC switch is not indicating range correctly this would cause the HDC to indicate that operational conditions have not been met. As the range switch also triggers different ETC programming, a faulty switch might explain the issues you've had off-road with ETC.
Before you start looking at wheel sensors, grab a multimeter or test light and check to see if you have continuity between the two wires on the Hi-Lo Detect switch when you have low engaged.

Thank you for the HDC information you mentioned the RAVE I have accessed it on the web, but also remember seeing a post about CDs that can be purchased through AULRO. I have searched and looked in market place without success are the CDs still available if so from where?
Thanks Ollie
