    Fuel Pump?

Td5 began running very rough yesterday, sounded like it was missing and low on power. I cleaned the Maf and checked the ECU for oil (only replaced the loom 5 months ago) and it seemed clean. It is now turning over and straight away stalling. Talked to Landy Andy on the phone and he asked if I could hear the Fuel Pump.... nope all is quite. If it is primed and I turn it over then it stalls will it then re prime? ie will i be able to hear it? Is there any other tests to ascertain if this is my problem? Thanks Aaron.

Give the underside of the tank a whck with a rubber mallet - this often gets the pump running again. If it does, then you know that the pump is the culprit.

Sounds like the fuel pump has failed but also remove the fuel filter and check that it isn't full of dirt. When you refit the filter you should hear the pump running while it primes the system.
Also check the fuel pump relay in the engine bay fuse box.

Check the voltage at the connector too. Thicker wires of the four, should be 12v, but you've only got 30 seconds to test it, after you turn to ignition, otherwise turn key off and on to ignition again.

When should the fuel pump stop?

Just a quick question on TD5 2000 Discovery fuel pump if I may. Mine seems to run all the time which while the engine is running I understand. When key switched to II runs as it should prior to starting but should it stop if the engine is not started. I see reference to having 30 seconds to check the pump here, does that mean mine should shut down if engine not actually started while key still in P2?

Looking at keeping a spare fuel pump in the back just in case as they seem to be a bit of a failure prone thing. Anyone had experience with these. Seem pretty cheap get out of trouble insurance.

That looks nothing like an OEM pump. I have heard that non genuine pumps are cheap for a reason and apparently are not very good. I'll take a pic of a genuine pump and post it up 2moro.
