Often these are "steal to order" by crash shops...
Seen many times
From one D2 owner and enthusiast to another I had to share what some low life scum did today.
My wife was at the Austin hospital visiting her father and someone thought it would be a good idea to help themselves (using a screw driver) to a couple of side moldings
I wouldn't have expected this from another D2 owner seeing how easy and cheap parts are to get for these things.
We are now waiting for the car park security guys to go through any footage.
Were so careful where we park the Disco in-case of door dents etc.. but I never expected this.. Then again nothing surprises me these days.
Anyway, feels a little better venting it out here so thanks for listening.

it is a very odd thing to steal
I think Tombie is on the money. A neighbour recently had a tail light lens stolen from his Freelander while the car was parked out front. The lens is held on by Torx screws, and the lens was carefully removed, so it's not just random. It's probably more common than people think.
Disappointing, how much would you love to catch them in act..........
hopefully with the more and better cameras on cars these people will get caught
The wife remembers parking next to a champagne D2 thinking it would be safer to park next to the D2. Not implying anything but it's certainly a possibility.
It's funny how we always notice D2's and D1's. Before we purchased ours we used to play a game while driving. The person to first call "Disco" on first sighting scores a point lol.. Yes sad but kept us alert and my wife awake for most of the longer trips.
Actually we still call out "Disco" most times
I sat down to order some replacements and the rear quarter piece with the chrome insert (STC50216) is not stocked by most of the usual online LR suppliers.
Makes me think that's all the motive they needed. Easy to find as a set though.
Finally found both pieces sold by a single supplier so I've placed the order and now waiting for the shipping estimate.
It's not about the money with these things < $100 but it's just damn annoying!
Both the SS and the clubby i had continually lost their badges.
In the end i gave up replacing them. Most were taken at the local shopping centre.
As for the LR's,have lost nothing at the same shopping centre.
I once had a white TN Magna sedan stolen, only for it to be found the next morning without bumpers or lights either end. Not a mark on the door and it was started with a key. The worst bit was having to ring around and buy the parts from a wrecker believing that someone out there in the parts business was probably responsible. Surprise surprise, the parts were expensive and hard to find.
Sorry that someone targeted your D2. I too would put most Rover folk above that.
