Something I've been thinking about for a while now....

I got them from Triumph Rover Spares here in SA. I found them on a Disco in the yard and they removed them for me. When I got back to the counter I asked Phil how much for the extended racks and he said they didn't have any????? I said maybe not any more.. :-) As I bought quite a few bits this trip I got them for $100.

Yes they seem harder to get these days so just keep looking and check all the Land Rover wreckers. Sometimes they have a set and don't know it.

While I was in there I figured it would be a good time to put in a power socket for my awning light..

If you want an ultra low profile cross bar that fits between the roof bars and keeps total height under 2m (assuming only a small lift) then look at the Whispbar S47 Prorack Whispbar Roof Rack Cross BAR FIT Between Rails | eBay

Also, I have bought some Rola bar feet that are the perfect height to fit flush with the top of the factory rails, to use as a mount for the awning backing. Will post pics if I ever get to fitting them lol

Well back on the job. More funds available...

Bought the gutter mounts yesterday for $200.. 2x Rhino RL210SZ and 2x Rhino RL150.

Drilled holes for the awning in the brackets to get it low and close to the roof.

Started making the top brackets today. Just got to clean them up and paint them.

    Then fit and photos..

BTW my mounting system with the glued on breadboard survived a lap of Australia including the GRR with no problems.

Only thing is , I hardly ever used the awning! In retrospect it is a bit of a waste of space.

A few weeks ago I went gramping.

It started to rain and we all took shelter in my camper.

I thought if I had the awning on we could have used that...

Must admit I haven't used it yet all the time it was on the Pathfinder..

I'm hoping it will get used, where the shovel on the other side gets plenty of use. Digging out Jeeps and fire tending.

I have been contemplating a similar solution, but was thinking of using a heavy duty suction cup on the side of the Defender roof, but can't find anything suitable, ideas?
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
