mounting a CODAN ATU on D2 rear end

Who has mounted a CODAN ATU (antenna tuning unit) on a D2 rear end. Years ago I exchanged my steel rim spare for an alloy and therefore a KAYMAR wheel mount antenna bracket (designed only to work with a steel wheel) is not an option for me. Wanting to know what others have done......

At the moment my only option seems to be installing a tapped whip to my bullbar and ditching the ATU.

    G'day Onebob,

On my D2a I had an antenna mount bracket that was designed for an auto tune. But I just had an HF Whip on it.

I seem to remember it cost me about $150 or so something like 7-8 years ago. I got it through these guys: Time Plus Communications

It's still on the car, which I sold to a friend, but pretty sure he wont want to part with it.

Thanks Mark for the helpful reply. Nice looking unit and simailar to the current Wheel on Door accessory mounts available for Prado's etc.

It's a long shot but the D2 unit you had might still be available or at the very least Time Plus might be able to point me to the manufacturer.

Here's a homemade one, about a metre of medium wall 3/4" pipe a 3 bits of 5mm flat bar for a Barrett auto tune.

Thanks tommo, that looks do-able even for me ;-)

How did you route the cables ?

    Hi Onebob'
Cable just comes down back of rear door into a hole in that plastic corner piece. You will find there is plenty of room behind it to run cable in fairly protected position. Then runs along top of chassis. The radio is mounted under the drivers seat and I scratched my head for quite a while on how to get cable to it. Finally I just drilled a hole in the floor in easily accessible spot (with seat and plastic trims removed and is covered when plastic seat trim replaced) and made a cover for where the cable has to cross to the chassis from a piece of about 3mm aluminium. Hope the pics give you the general idea.
