    Wind Screen Wiper Control??????

    G'day All,

My windscreen wipers, when I switch them on it can take some time before they start to operate??? Not such a biggy if its a drizzle.....bit worrysome if it starts caning down and you are waiting for the wipers to start to do their business. Any idea's? Has been like that pretty much since I bought it 6 odd mths ago,

    Regards

    Stevo

    Hi Stevo
Sorry but, yep quite a common occurrence I'm afraid. Mine too did that sometimes taking 30 seconds to do anything (a long time when it starts bucketing and you're doing 90kmh!).

It has been suggested that twisting/operating the switch repeatedly can alleviate the problem, some have even disassembled and cleaned (electrical contact cleaner) and got them working. I did not have the time or the confidence for this so I replaced the stalk.

Can look out the receipt and get the price and maybe (???) part number if you want to go down that path.

    Cheers

    Hi Steve,
Most likely going to be the switch.
On manufacture they coat the inside switch mech with a grease.
Over time the grease hardens & loses contact. Hence the switch doesnt work (happens the same for the wipers too..after the switch getting warm the unit then operates)
See if u can remove switch assembly & clean with CO2 (Contact clean) Blue & white tin from Bursons, Repco etc.

    Cheers

Thanks for the posts, to be honest Im not game to remove anything, might try the switch on/ off idea, otherwise will just live with it, unless it is cheap to fix,
