    Stereo replacement

    Hi all,

How easy is it to replace a stereo in a D2. Mines dead and has been for some time so came across some cheap stereo's at markets for $100. Just wondering whether one can do the install at home. The plug for the rear of the radio im guessing will have to be cut and a new plug fitted with the new radio. Theres so many wires to connect. is it easy or better of to pay electrician to wire the new one in. just a pity the steering switches will not work with other brand radio stereos. what have people done and what cost to install? cheers

It is incredibly easy, and no need to cut wires. All D1 and D2 use an ISO loom, and an adaptor to the head unit. All you need to do is buy a head unit (better off getting a reasonably good one, they aren't that expensive) then buy an Aerpro adaptor for the unit to ISO (e.g. Sony to ISO, JVC to ISO adaptor) Cost around $20 buck for the adaptor from any car audio shop. Then it is plug and play!

I your steriio was Alpine, they do make a repacement.
No cutting required and can be programmed for the steering wheel too.
In Land Rover Owner International they had a article about this. Will look at home for the issue date. It was in the past 6 months.

    Off topic but:

Rudolf, what is the aircraft in your avatar pic? Looks to be a sailplane / glider of some sort.

Radio replacement easy amplifier not so

Im also in the throws of replacing the head unit. Have a 7" TFT touch screen thingie that does all the whatsies. The LR unit is currently half out waiting to go. I have to commit cause I didnt get the security code when I bought her so once shes out its silence til the new one goes in.

The prob Im having is I cant seem to find anywhere under the junk at the front to fit the amplifier and where to fit the subwoofer. They dont fit under the seats. The ten stackers comes out when the old unit come out.
    .
Where have people put their amps and sub woofers?? And im not talking to play doof doof crap here either but you know the unit is stuffed when Ildivo and Andre Rieu basses out. Even the bloody Wiggles make the speakers wobble.

Id rather not use the luggage area if at all possible. was thinking floor behind centre console but that would stop the seats folding down. Too lazy to make it removable. Whats the fat guy lazy option?

You must have a big amp if you can't fit it under the passenger's front seat. I've got one of those Sony XPlod ones in there and there's plenty of room.

Sub is mounted as below -

    Cheers .........

    Hi All,
I replaced my head unit with a JVC cd/dvd head unit with USB input, I wish I had known about using an ISO adaptor because I cut the old plug couplers off and joined in the new wires, well the old unit will never be put back in. I did notice that the connections would have mated up perfectly to my old Blaupunkt head unit that I left in my previous car. Why did LR use a radio that is 1.5 times larger than standard and not jump up to double din, then you could fit a stereo with screen that would not wobble over bumps.
    Cheers Matt

    Hi BigJon
It is a F3B composite glider designed here in RSA by Graig Goodrum.
He is the current RSA champion.
Check out his Australian counter part Joe Wurst. A previous F3B world champion.
