    Fire extinguisher

Guys, has anyone installed a Fire extinguisher in their D2 TD5? I'm looking to mount it somehwerer but i don't know where the best location for this is?

Any hints? I was thinking horizontally under the back window.

I have one in the D1.

It is located where you are thinking of installing yours, horizontally directly under the back door window.

The metal just below the window was drilled and a couple of rivets hold the bracket on.

I have mine mounted horizontally on the rear door in the stepped down part near the lock. Its in a metal mounting bracket with its securing latch safety tied by a thin cable tie. I also carry a second extinguisher in one of the cargo bins.

Yeah i have mine currently in the cargo bins, but I want it mounted, safe it rolling around. What did you use to mount it, the extinguisher that I have comes with a mount bracket around it, I'm guess a couple of screws into the metal to hold the bracket?

I used two "thread-serts" with 1/4" flat head roofing bolts. Depends on your bracket - there usually isn't much clearance between the bracket and extinguisher. Large pop rivets would also do the job.

Yeah I just had a look at where you guys were talking about. What difficulties did you have with removing the back door lining in order to fix metal washers to the bottom of the screws. Also, did you have any movement from it in the bracket, it sitting very close to the back glass.

I mounted mine on the passenger side of my cargo barrier up high out of the way. Secured it with plastic ties. I will take a photo and upload it tonight or tomorrow.

ONly problem is I don't have a cargo barrier. Anyone know how hard the back lining is to take off and whether or not there is wiring running through there?

When I had my 300TDi in Blighty, I had mine mounted on the kick plate/side panel in the passenger footwell, on the left hand side, under the dash glove box.
I wanted it somewhere I could reach for it quickly, without getting out of the car.
Never seemed to cause co-pilots any trouble, but did put an element of doubt in their minds! Not always a bad thing!!

I'll be mounting one in my D2 in the same place in the near future.

    Cheers,

I mounted ours horizotaly across the front of the trim under front passenger seat.
Not in the way when traviling, exept wife's knitting bag.
Easy access from both front seats.

    Cheers.
