If you have an MY03 onwards, they're EURO3 which are cat systems.
If it's not there, it's been removed.

Thanks Andrew. I'll look again just to confirm, but there's no cat, and the pipe hasn't had anything removed ... it's a single pipe from the turbo to the muffler. RAVE shows my VIN under Emmissions as "unknown" ... ?? and under Territory (+) it says "unknown" ... these are listed under the Major Attributes tab for Vehicle Identification ... then the Minor Features tab, 1st lines says ... '(-)"CDN/MEX/USA'" .... Hmmm ... under Spec. Codes it shows CATALYSTS - CATALYST CONVERTER [067AC] ... but then further down the list it shows EMMISSION DIRECTIVES - EURO CONSOLIDATED DIRECTIVE 3 [053AS] ... that's not EU3 (as shown in the emmisions list), that's ECD3 (as shown in the emmisions list) ... right ?? .... so maybe it HAD one and it's been removed ... I'll inspect closer.

Unless the previous owner removed the cat pipe and fitted a non-cat pipe ... but the pipe still has the factory bellows on the down pipe. ?

Kev..

Thanks, very interesting. Can I ask where you got that quote from?

Another question, from what year were cats made compulsory for diesel engines?
I have been told 2003, 2004 and 2005, all from differing sources, all by supposed experts.

Model year is not the same as production year. New models in 2003 did need cats, carryover models from 2002 didn't. I believe all models from 2004 had to though, I don't know the exact date.

How about this for an cheaper alternative.

Pulled the mid section out to put in a straight through but the exhaust guys said will sound great but for the touring I looking to do the the droning would get too much.

They suggested putting in a short hotdog to tone it down but even then too loud, note travelling with dogs in the back and one started to not like getting in the car.

Next option was for a commodore section, the ODs are the same. Seems to still spool up quicker than standard but not so throaty as the straight throughs and that seems a good compromise. $115.

Dogs are happy now

So if we need to pass an emmissions test Cats are useless after 5 or so years anyway. So they should be replaced to pass the test anyway.

How legal, if at all is the EGR removal? I would imagine you would have no hope of passing a sniffer test if that is removed.

My mapping will pass a sniffer without EGR

2001 Disco SEII V8

Hi there fellow Landy Lovers.
Im about to own one of these units, can some one give me info on exhaust and engineering quality. Are they any good, what are the recommended mods.
Lots of Cat Conv. chit chat, the Jury seems Divided here.
Any other thoughts on the general Exhaust System.
Cheers

Some of the D2s and D2a's came without a cat and some did, the cat is about the size of the rear muffler and sits between the flex joint and the centre muffler.
